Charge Pipes
Friday, April 09, 2010 11:08 AM
I was looking for a little help regarding to charge pipes and how people went about getting them. I am looking at a universal kit that will be fabricated to fit my car (2000 LD9) but am not sure which bends I should get or how many. If anyone can give me a rough estimate I would appreciate it. Also wondering if the 7 psi spring in the Tial 50mm BOV would be the best one for my car (they come in 7,9,11,12).

How are you wanting to run the charge pipes?

I just want it to work, not picky on how it is setup.

I got that kit, the piping is a lot thicker than the other cheaper kits, and it already has the bead rolls on it. It welds great too, it is not some mystery aluminum like the other kits (I have heard that some weld like crap).

First look at your engine bay and figure out how you want to run it. During that process you should be able to figure out what bends you need. Then order the piping you need. Then do it. I tend to stay away from the kits on ebay. I like to weld as much as possible to cut down on the couplers needed.

What John said.

Look at your bay, figure out if you wanna run most of them in the engine bay or under the car. Since you have a manual you can run them under the car.

Columbia River Mandrel Bends - That's where i picked up a fabricators kit of 2.5" aluminum - very very nice material relatively inexpensive, and I had it Tig welded after I did all the cutting and fitting. Welder said that material was so perfect and good to work with.
