Possible Tune issue I dk!
Thursday, April 22, 2010 6:17 AM
So i finally felt comfortable getting on my car last night, since the last eco blew up i basically been keeping it outta of boost.

So me and my firends were going to applebees and i was getting on the highway so i did a WOT in 3rd and around 4 or 5k i get a flashing check engine! literally FLASHING so i was like wtf.

So i got off it right away and eventually it stopped....Let me metion this has happened before and it was a misfire on #2.

so on the way i got on it again around the top of 4th around 4 or 5k and again flashing check engine and this time it stayed!

I haven't had time to check this code. I'm guessing the same thing?

So what the hell do you guys think the issue is? Tuning issue? ICM issue? Spark plugs? Boots?

I have indruim AC delcos Gapped to . 32 in now.

my luck for this thing is ridculous...

input?

Sounds to me like knock retard... Gotta love those mail order tunes...

Hvae you done a compression check? My car was having the same issue with the misfires, compression check revealed low compression in one cyclinder.

Providing that everything is okay mechanically (which may or may not be true), it could be that you are running super rich or super lean. If you have a wideband, what kind of numbers are you getting?

hence why mail order tunes are not always a good idea.

i have never heard of the flashing cel being knock retard.

I had full on 8 degrees of knock retard on my old car (while working out issues) and it never flashed. Only time mine ever flashed and I checked the ecu it was misfire...

Whats your AFR's under wot? Anything ver 11.8 in most cases 98% will cause knock in an ecotec. under wot...

It could be bad gas too.. I only run BP all the time. And you wouldn't have to use that mail order tune. I told you give me a few dollars for the credits and pay my tuner for him to dyno tune your car... But you never got back to me about any of this.. And it would be VERY smart to have a wide band in your car at all times...

Agreed. You NEED to have wideband on a boosted car, it is pretty cheap compared to a new motor! And as far as the flashing CEL, it has always meant a misfire and nothing else (that is true for all OBD II vehicles, I believe).

my guess is its a lean missfire. hp tuners? if not what are you using for a tune? do u have bigger injectors?

Trifecta Tuning = Blind Barber..... Get to the nearest tuning shop with hpt and get something worked out...sounds like the second motor is on its way out already as well... Tuning is cheaper than replacing motors and alot more efficient.

If the knock is severe enough, it can show itself as a misfire (vice/versa)... Seen this happen many times...
