m62 + hpt

I searched a bit and did not see this covered.

got my m62 on my sedan and will be getting tuned before too long. (no i'm not driving the car currently...) what did you guys do with the map/iat wiring? does it still need to be wired as it would for the 2bar map? i know quite a few are running hpt with the gm kit... just trying to tie up loose ends before the car is back on the ground and ready to go.

well you can't use the reflash and tune that because for the eco's it's locked unlike the LD9's. I'm getting mine tuned this weekend and I'm leaving the t-map together. You might want to pm 04jbody or TOM (S/C) FIRE because iirc they already have their m62 tuned via hpt and might have a better answer for you.

I guess the answer depends most on if you want to fake a 2.5 bar tune using the s/c kit's TMAP, or if you want to tune with a 1-bar set up.

WIth the fake 2.5bar, we only get to scale the timing tables (manually - hence the fake part) - we don't have control of anything that would let us scale fueling to see boost. People have made this work, but you do loose resolution in vacuum.

One interesting find I've come across is that the late model camaro IAT was actually threaded and supposedly fits into a tapped fitting on the s/c intake mani. This would give you a great way to keep timing in check with high IATs from the blower - so you could run more base advance with a 1-bar tune, and use the IAT table to pull timing when she gets hot in boost. From the "TVS revisited" thread - the autozone part number is SU-107. There is also a suggestion that you could wire the IAT part of the TMAP to the stock wiring, but I didn't look into detail on that. When I go s/c, my IAT will come from a post-blower source, not the intake piping, that's for sure.

Good luck!

well since you'll be the one tuning it, which would you prefer to deal with? also, i'd assume the 1 bar map will need to go pre-blower?

the car has not been reflashed. i bought alias' kit minus the tmap, injectors, and reflashed ecu (got the injectors... trying to figure out if i need the tmap. )

I did pm tom (S/c) fire and he tells me he's running with the 2.5 bar map.

I'm not familiar with the hardware, but is there a place to put the 1-bar post blower? I don't know if the 1-bar s/c guys are doing this, but we have a 105kpa column in our spark tables that could be the in-boost spark. If it needs to go pre-blower because there is no place post blower to put it, it would still be tunable.

A question, because i'm not familiar with the hardware, the TMAP is situated on the blower itself right? NOT on the intake mani? If so this would be a good place for the stock 1-bar if it physically fits.

If it was my car, i'd tune it with a 1-bar set up. We just don't have all the tables/multipliers to get faking a 2.5 bar right IMO. Positive displacement s/c's produce boost consistenly relative to RPM, so it can be done right with alpha-n.

It is located ON the intake manifold right below the #1 injector. It's the black thing below my "ricer filter" in this pic:

it can go on the intake mani as tinkles said. as a matter of fact, that's where it is currently (just not plugged in) I just wasn't sure how happy the stock map sensor would be seeing boost.

i'm curious to know where they are mounting the iat post blower though...

Tuning is still rpm vs tps, so map sensor doesn't matter for fuel, the reason I used the 2.5 bar was for the iat sensor in the intake manifold and boost referenced timing, lower resolution but able to change it, whereas if you just used a 1 bar you could only control timing out of boost and the last map vs timing table would be you boost timing. It would be one set number under any amount of boost, unless you have something like the msd ignition and overadvanced the timing with hpt and cut the timing back with the msd unit.

I'm not a fan of the fake but other than using that your only option would be a small ratio FMU along with hpt

No FMU should ever be needed with a SC setup like this.....

anybody got pics of where they have the map and IAT sensors on their hptuned m62 setup?

preferably looking for 1 bar map/threaded IAT guys (as I already know where the tmap mounts)

Maybe PM/search Dr. Vega - he's big on M62 1-bar hpt tunes.

searched but no luck...

Vacuum hose from intake manifold to map sensor, and as far as I know most people are using the stock IAT sensor. But as suggested you can drill and tap in a threaded IAT into the intake manifold, I haven't seen this yet, but it's up to you to find the appropriate spot to put the sensor, maybe where the TMAP goes....

i'm thinking that is where they are running the threaded IAT (in the tmap spot) but i'd like to have that verified as it was mentioned in another thread that it goes right in (no tapping needed?)

can't remember if the top right side is threaded already or we tapped it for the IAT.

i have mine t'd in at the top of the intake manifold where that nipple sticks out. i plugged the hole on the topside of my s/c by the tb.

thanks!! that's what i was looking for!

the port on the top of my blower is already blocked so i'll shoot for teeing it in off the intake mainfold port.

Heres mine, my car is not HP Tuned but its Airtonics old manifold and his car was. Its proboly better for the computer to read it there anyway since its post blower

For the IAT sensor its a bung (an 02 bung i believe) welded onto the manifold and the sensor is threaded in.

pulled the s/c and mani tonight because the port will need to be enlarged and tapped for the threaded IAT.

just a heads up for others looking to do this.

we tapped the port today using a 5/8" drill bit to enlarge it and a M18x1.5 tap to thread the hole for the IAT sensor. (in case anybody needs the info)

i thought the iat sensor was a 3/8s npt.?

not the one i ended up with... but i got mine from advance so perhaps that had something to do with it?

as long as it has the same plug and it works right you are fine. i got my from autozone, and its the 3/8npt one..
