Boosted 2002 LN2s running the LD9 reflash?
Tuesday, May 18, 2010 9:09 AM
I'm specifically looking for a 2002 model year LN2 that has ported over the LD9 reflash successfully.

I've checked with ImPhat and he has not seen any 2002 LN2 w/LD9 reflash, so it's a longshot that anyone else has, but i'm asking anyways.

This specific engine/model year/ ECM combo is a missing link of sorts. It seems that the part number for the 2002 LN2 ECM and the 2002 L61 ECM are the same. The calibrations are of course different, but the hardware is the same.

Be interested to see if there is any issues with this...

I know it 2002 along with the new ECM they went over to a 4 wire heated O2 as well...

I'm still keeping an eye out also guys.. If I find one, I will test it myself and let you know... So far it does not look too promising though...

Oh well, May the Schwartz be with you!

Well i think this was a short lived hope - i'm looking at all the different calibration files - the 2002 LD9 reflash has the "L4 Big" listed as the controller, while the 2002 LN2 and L61 are P11 - which makes sense, the hardware (ECM) is totally different. The controller for the 2003-2005 L61 is also listed as P11, but the ECM hardware is a different part number (ac delco 12576162 ) compared to the 2002 ECMs (ac delco 12210553). I suppose there is an off chance that it "could" work, but my bet is on the same hardware/OS mismatch experienced when trying to flash the LD9 reflash to a 2003-2005 PCM.

The 2002 cavalier model year license is a winner - you get three engines and 3/4 OS depending how you look at it. Does anyone have as 2002 model/year license AND a 2002 cav to borrow?? If i can get a 2002 ECM (P11), i'll ship it to you so you can try it and we'll know for very little cost.

Man I hope this works for you.

Im just talkin out loud here but why cant a 04-06 P12 pcm be swapped into the cavalier or s10. I mean get the pinouts then swap in the P12 pcm, then flash a cobalt SS s/c file and full flash it in. If it runs then try tuning it. I know their must be a reason why this wont work. Is it the gauge functions due to conflict with the bcm?

The P12 is unique to the cobalt ss/sc and Ion redline right? You would need the harness, a MAF sensor the appropriate MAP and TMAP sensors, the PCM, and the wire harness at least. It would probably work, but you'll spend more on all of that than on a megasquirt, and have the same time into it in re-wiring.

I thought shifted did this a long time ago and the file flashed onto the 2.2 ecu but there were issues with it in some way. its been so long since it was done but i remeber it was. Why not get a 2.4 ecu and the engine bay harness and hook it up to the eco? I mean with a 2.2 coil swap and lengthening some wires, changing a few plugs in the sensors in theory would work. both have same reluctor wheel. if ive read right the 00-02 should be plug and play with the bcm and rest of car. someone correct me if im wrong but its somhing ive been thinking about for a while.

Skunk and I tried this on my car, it wouldnt write. We were able to write the turbo tune for his '04 ECO into my PCM, but not the LD9.

I believe I have a 2002 Sunfire LN2 (auto) PCM sitting around somewhere. I have to look for it. If you need it, PM me and I will go hunting through my things.

I would love to have a MAP based boost tune for when I finally put my pile of parts together.

What I was saying is just swap the pcm into the car or s10. Keep the harness in there. Get a wire file for the 2002 cavalier or in my case an s10. Then get the pinouts for the p12 and you can see if it may work. It may not be a direct swap im sure but you should be able to see if it can be altered some to work. And you might be able to turn off maf sensor and tune speed density??? Not sure if the P12 can be adjusted like that.

If you're going that route, you may as well re-pin for the "L4 Big" the ECM that the 2000-2002 LD9 uses and run that reflash. I don't mean to sound dismissive, but you can find these things in the yard for 20 bucks. Cost is a factor when you want to use the P12 parts
