i have read alot and a few places claim they dont make a difference while others say they make a big difference, i know there design is made to eliminate alot of overlap so the cylinders fill up with the intake charge. is there anyone who went from stock to turbo cams and shed some insight? thanks

i don't want to speak for him but I know Vincent Morris did on his boosted ecotec and he said it made a noticeable difference. I don't remember the specifics though.

Had them but sold them once I got the built motor with stage3 cams in it. Should have kept them then put them in the built motor. Being boosted i would do them. But it turns into a lot of money due to needing valve train.
i've heard very good things about comp's "turbo grind". However, I would think better results are possible with stage 3, adj cam gears and some tune/dyno time. The key is to optimize the overlap and over all advance/retard for spooling the turbo. Part of the beauty of the turbo grind is the lobe separation angle is conducive to a turbocharged engine. Same thing (or better) can be done with the adj gears and more lift to help.
ryan recommended that i switch to the turbo cams for a better powerband vs the stage 3's
gotcha - that's a very good reason. My point applies to peak power on a built engine that's not afraid to rev - maybe not the best situation for a daily driver.

I can say the blower grind cams are the @!#$. With the needed valve springs it only cost about $750 for 5 mph in the quarter mile.

my motor will go all the way up to 8500 but he still said id have better results with the turbo cams...
i got the same set up as tom, not sure how they are yet as my car isnt done, but im sure they'll be awesome

no, stock springs with cams and 18 psi... sold the car before i could upgrade the head

Thmotorsports had supertechs for ~$340.
If you want a rough estimate of how a cam change would work get a program called dyno 2000. It is simple and easy to use and if you have all of the necissary information it can make very good gestimates of what a modification with do for you. Upgrading cams involves alot of information ... lift, duration (at .050 degrees. at 0 degrees is worthless), ivo ivc evo evc, overlap degrees of retard (most cams come 2 degrees retarded but not all). Turbo cams are a very good decision but if it is very close to stock with just a minimal inprovement in overlap the gains may be negligable.

A 26% gain in power is huge from only a cam!!! I plan on getting the Bisi Stg 2.4 if I get one. I hope I gain 81whp!!!

I hope my next project is an all-motor engine with vtec... hopefully an AP1 S2000 (F20C). My current project is turbo non-vtec.

That was a great article, but there was not much discussion on the attributes of the cam that made it perform the way it does, just a straight up comparison. ~80whp gain on a car making ~300whp baseline is beyond impressive. It's cool to see them comment on the driveability and low/mid response losses as well.
Very valuable read, but I stand by the statement that in terms of peak power the comp stage 3s could outperform the turbo grind when phased properly with adj cam gears. It may not be a car you want to drive on the street every day, but there's just more potential airflow there, and you can avoid the blow-through by tuning out some overlap. Keep in mind i'm not saying anything about boost threshold or anything like that - i don't know, but more airflow = moar powah!
The turbo grind is prob the ultimate turbo eco street grind - like phil said, more power across the board and lower boost threshold
yea, overlap is one of the keys in developing turbo cams. Correct overlap can aid greatly in faster spool-up.

Having a turbo spool up 1000rpm sooner is awesome. Turbo cams are great. I hope to get a set... they are having a group buy on the Bisi cams right now, but it is only for the sohc vtec engines, but I am trying to get them to add a non-vtec group buy as well. I wouldn't mind 80whp extra and faster spool up. Muhahahaa!
