and sorry i know i asked a few other turbo question but i was offered a free used today (1300 miles before getting a GT3582R for his civic) t3 super 60 it would be used for a ld9 port and polished, SS valves, wiseco 9:1, eagle rod, 2.3l oil pump conv. and it a DD would this be a good choice?
i would like to at least get around 300whp + or - and im still try to understand engine Volumetric efficiency so..... and i would like to see how much power i could make on the stock cams before needing cams
note* my rev limit is the stock ld9 6500rpm
the turbo's spec:
T3 SUPER 60 TURBO CHARGER .63ar
Intake: 3 inch
Inlet: 2 inch
Compressor trim: .60 AR
Compressor Wheel diameter: 54.28 /71.32
Turbine Wheel diameter: 55.79 /63.36
Exhaust Trim: .63ar
Turbine flange type: T3 flange
Down pipe flange type: 5 bolt standard
Cooling type: oil cool only
Horsepower rating: 325-350
The super 60 was probably the most common choice for the LD9 back in the day before HPTuners. It's definitely a good choice for a daily driver...and if he's giving it to you for free, why not get it?
I have no signiture
but then i was thinking a GT35r for potential, and selling the super 60 ........ what do you all think?
One of my favorite LD9 car's, that has ran 12's runs a Super 60.
Are you planning for 500+whp? I guarantee your friend with the Civic is. If you're not, then a 35r is much too big for you. A GT30r or S256 would be a better choice if you're looking for "potential". The Super 60 is a good turbo, but it's downfall is it's small exhaust wheel, which chokes top end power. Hell, if you don't want it for free, I'll take it

Yeah, super 60 and gt35r are in completely different classes! super 60 is good for stock internals at a low psi and the 35r is meant for high boost/high HP. Need to have a built motor for that sucker.
I just recently upgraded to a super 60. Im running the .48ar turbine though. BUT, im also have an ecotec

ooh OK, im only planning for about 300hp or 350ish max and with a max rpm of 6500

this super 60 has an .63 turbine
.63 AR is exactly what you want. You probably won't reach your power goals with a Super 60, but you should be able to get close.

is it a real Super 60? as many people incorrectly call T3 60 trim a Super 60.
Also, Super 60s are great DD turbos. Should make for an excellent ride.
I originally started with turbonetics' version of the T3 super 60. S-trim compressor wheel, journal bearing and .48ar turbine. Very quick spooling turbo but yea fell off a little up top. I now use a factory grand national turbo which is exactly a t3 super 60, like many of the older ford 2.3 turbo motors used. Started with a .48ar turbine, swapped to a .63ar which helped it a bit more up top. At 10psi Id say Im around 260whp, havnt ran it but I hang right with low-mid 13 second cars.
As said theres a stock motor ld9 running 12's with this turbo, and Im sure I wouldnt be far off with a few more psi. Great turbo for DD, which mine is 100% daily driven. 300whp is kind of pushing it, but this turbo is comfortable around 250-275whp.

ok that still sound good to me (250-275)
plus its a "free" turbo
by the way what rpm are you at full boost with the .63 AR?

not necessarily, some have .48 turbine housings as well.
and in case any one was wondering
A super 60 is basically a T3 60 trim with a larger inducer on the compressor.

If you and Joe are talking about the car I think you are, its not entirely stock 2.4 parts. It has had a few minor things changed.
Yes sir. cheapest set of cams including installation ever.
i decided to wait on put the turbo on my ld9 now because A. it was rebuilt on sealed power Hypereutectic pistons with eagle rods stock cams, oil pump, fel-pro gaskets and a luk repset clutch i love, i closed off the "pcv" port to the intake manifold and hooked up a hose from the oil/air separator to a "diy" catch can
and put two small holes near bottom on the side of the filter element and reversed the flow path(opposite of the arrow) to make it more effective ..... it works great
so how does this sound(im on a budget but would still like so advice or help)
2.3l oil pump conv.
wiseco 9:1 pistons
eagle rods
clevite 77
Cometic Head Gasket
Stainless steel valves
port and polish
turbo log manifold
turbo oil line
T3 Super 60
2.5 full exhaust
(2.5 down pipe---> 2.5 high flow cat or
fake cat --------> cherry bomb glasspack
intercooler and piping
650cc injectors
adjustable FPR
Wideband O2 with gauge
Racetronix fuel pump
Hp tuners(i have to learn to use)
and laptop to use HpT on lol
ps im doing this all the fall for my high performance and machine shop at Sinclair college
plus my ld9 in the car has some blow by(very hard to see smoke but if you was to put your finger over the outlet hose from the you just barely feel anything) but i think that because i closed off the port in the head
