OK....So Ive been planning out my turbo setup for a while now. I figured I would just jump on the bandwagon and throw on a super 60, great all around turbo, but seeing how it flows around 33-35 lbs/min I just couldnt see myself spending that kind of money for such little flow. So this had me thinking and of course I start looking at flange options. Well it just so happens that Vulcan's turbo manifold can be ordered with dsm flange. Well isnt this a blessing. We all know that dsm turbos can be had relatively cheap and seem to make decent horsepower, 14b's can be had very cheap and the 16g's,however expensive, have proven time and time again that they can make some serious power. So...lets get straight to my point. Has anyone ever thought of using FP's dsm sleeper turbo??? Its a monster of a turbo all crammed inside a TD05H housing....I mean this little beast will flow up to 47 lbs/min!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and from the outside looks just like a 14b
. On their website they have a vid of a 1g awd dsm running a 10.3 ET on this thing!!!!!!!!!!!!! And right now its on sale for $850 shipped. May not be as good for eco since eco's seem like higher rpms...but for Q4/TC it probably wouldnt be that bad...only thing i could see being a down side is they spool up would be so damn fast.
I seen this turbo mentioned in a thread but only a couple posts.

i have a mani for sale when you get it
What about BorgWarner turbos? Something like an s259 is at peak efficiency (80%, which is better than anything garrett has to offer with a journal bearing, and on part with their BB's) from about 25 lbs to 40 lbs.

An s259 is way too big. Even an s256 would dwarf any TD05 in both flow and physical size. I think he is intentionally looking for something tiny with decent flow. I personally think this is a bad idea. I have heard of issues of 2.0L guys having to detune 20g's machined to TD05H housings, just to prevent surge in the lower RPMs. Considering the displacement difference for a Q4/LD9, you will have even worse trouble with surge ...and honestly, how many times are you going to open your hood and lie to people, telling them "...oh, it's just a 14b." There is plenty of room under our hoods. Just get a turbo that is well matched on both the compressor and the turbine side, and I would recommend using a flange that is universal among a series of turbo's, so you have some easy upgrade options in the future.

Actually from what Ive read, The FP 68HTA "sleeper turbo" doesnt seem to have low rpm surge issues. And FP tried a TD06H turbine housing on it and it actually hurt the flow and performance all around. And fyi 47 lbs/min flow is nothing to shake a stick at for a turbo that would have awesome street manners and still have plenty of punch on the top end. And universal flange?? LOL dude.....they make a freakin ton of turbos that are dsm flange...take your pick ex:BEP holset housing with dsm flange,35r,30r.....ect
I wasn't saying you couldn't get a mitsu housing. I was just saying for whatever turbo you decide on, I would recommend using a flange where you have upgrade options.. I'm not too familiar with the Mitsubishi world, but from what I've seen, the AR's are pretty small, which is good for spool, but detrimental to top-end. Also, at what pressure ratio is the 47 lb/min rated? 15, 20, 25 psi? Giving rated wheel flow really doesn't tell you much without a compressor map.
Anyways, if you want to go with this turbo, I'm not trying to stop you. I just think it's foolish, because we don't have as bad of constraints on space as some of the other cars out there, so a "sleeper" turbo just doesn't make any sense to me. To each their own, I guess.
