I want to build a M62 Eaton Ecotec for $3,000

Can it be done?

Depending on what you want done and what kind of deal you can get on the S/C parts.

Boost > N/A

180hp in 1989 or 260hp in 2008, you decide. Quad < Ecotec

$3000 for just the s/c setup or the engine and trans too??

just for the s/c is a @!#$ rip off.

I want the motor and the supercharger for 3 grand. I was hoping some of you with expiernce could tell me the best way to do it for 3k.
I'm going to worry about the clutch and trans later.

Depending how far you plan to go with it will really determine the possibility of doing it with your funding limit. More or less you have to ask yourself how good of a bargain shopper are you and how patient are you in waiting for those bargains to come along............ Also are you looking for "new" or "used"? How "built" do you want the engine? Truthfully with the M62 you don't even need to touch the engine.

2.2 ecotec from salave yard-------600-700
m62 used kit-------1000-1250
so I'm right around 2,000 already. do I try and rebuild the motor and s/c ????

maybe atleast new bearings and rings in the motor?

then IC or another idea to lower intake temps

How my complete build was about $ 2200- 2500

Engine $300- 13k on it
Manual Trans- $100 25 k on it
Rad,hoses, mounts- $100
Supercharger and Manifold- $700
Clutch-$150
Alt.,bracket, starter, compressor - $200
Tune- 250
Header -$150

I maybe missing some things. Search cobalt SS for some good deals.

And i did my complete eco supercharged swap at one time.

I'm at about 2800 for a TVS with three pullies, 60lb/hr injectors, and all the parts to install it. All i need is a heat exchanger. IMO, you could have a running LE5 bottom end swapped ecotec with an M62 for under 3 grand if you make some deals . I'm not sure what F23 trans go for though. My s/c kit minus the blower was 1100 - it would have been 1300 with the blower on css.net Used is your friend

We have picked up a used Ecotec in Florida for just under $200, and it is running. Motor in CAVY 2NV's car holding 14psi.

If you piece together your charger kit you could probably put one together for $1000, and with some better parts. As it has been said all depends on how well you shop, and how rushed you are.

This would end up being a $10K build for me....

Its so slow now, I would not know what to do with "real" power....

I would love to see what you could do with 10k into an eco. I don't have a real clue, but i bet you don't have that much into the LN2 (i could be wrong) and it fkn tares it up!

Nowhere near that much with my current engine/turbo setup... If I were to go ECO though, it would cost me $10K by the time I went standalone and built everything to be bulletproof... Would also have to put a cage in the car and repaint because I would want to take to track and would need door handles..... Would also have to drive around on slicks......

It would be sick, that is for sure..... I'm glad some people at the Bash were able to witness 1st hand what a properly built/tuned 2200 will do.....

Which is destroy tires in third gear, followed by hooking up and leaving all else in the dust

Thanks to all those that had input. I'm going to be happy if I pull off a proper stock Eaton ecotec. If I have the money It would be nice to get comp cam blower grind likes airtonics had. But that means custom tune....So like I said build a stock eaton ecotec. Heck if I thought a stock ld9 was fun I'm sure a 200 hp eco will not dissapoint.

Re: Input on boost build.

Airtonics ran stage 3 N/A cams in his engine, not blower cams.

Boost > N/A

oh stage 3 n/a thanks tinkles.

just going over some things in my head and wondering if I should just get a 3400 and have about the same amount of power.

what kind of hp numbers are some you seeing with a stock 2.2 eaton ecotec?

Re: Input on boost build.

I put down a max of 219whp last fall with the mods in my profile(except i was running a smaller H/E and cobalt fill tube). Im also unsure if my H/E was even working because with the installation of the cobra H/E tank i found out that one of my lines has a decent leak in it.

With blower cams, good tune, and some mics supporting mods i dont see any reason(besides the external connecting rod mod) that i couldnt see 250+whp.

besides the external connecting rod mod ---- WTF is that? your joking right?

And ahhh Tinkles how are the blower cams set-up differenlty from N/A cams.

After seeing airtronics vid I might want the stage 3 n/a cams instead

Comps blower cams are just their Stage 1 N/A intake cam and Stage 2 N/A exhaust cam. You engine doesnt need help bringing fresh air/fuel into the engine(the S/C takes care of that), but with the added air coming in it does need more help removing the exhaust gases.

Dont run the Stage 3s. Jon even said himself that he should have went with the blower cams and lowered the rpms. Once i get my other eco built i plan on trying Comps Stage 2 N/A intake cam and Stage 3 N/A exhaust cam to see if there is a decent gain over the Blower cams.

I can't wait to see what the stage 2/3 combo does for the s/c set up.
