Has anyone hammered into the firewall. I'm off a bit and just need some room to squeeze that big snail in there. Any other ideas before I just put back on the 20g. I'm on ambien right now. so don't know what i'm sayin.

just asking? why dont you just flip the turbo over ( put the cold side) on the other side of the manifold? there is allot more room the other way

some turbos wont clear the thermostat housing with certain manifolds so ppl have to run them that way

Exactly. I already tried that. Well I hammered the firewall. It don't look great but I need to put some heat shield there anyways.

Get-er-done!

Another method that works well:
Use a 2 x 4 and rest the narrow edge up against the valve cover, with the end positioned on the portion of the firewall you wish to push back. Pull the other end of the 2 x 4 forward until the desired clearance is achieved.

Nice things about this method: easier than swinging a hammer back there, and the end result looks so much better than a bunch of cracked paint and hammer dents that will rust in time.
