Hmm. So now China moves its junk by calling it *snicker* JDM? Classic!
I guess in this case, "JDM" now means "junk dat moves", as in moves off the boats into unsuspecting engine bays until it fails miserably.
Folks, stick with the known major manufacturers of turbochargers. The cheap Chinese knock-offs are truly a waste of money.

pst, Garrett is manufactured in China, then balanced in mexico, then repackaged in the USA, so don't just go knocking something because its Chinese, knock on it because its of questionable quality.

Ah, if it were only that simple
Garrett, as a noted international manufacturer, has plants worldwide. As a result of its huge capability, Garrett can also control quality in a fashion that "Partschampion JDM Turbos" is uanable to achieve, no matter where the Garrett plant is located (China or otherwise). Needless to say, this kind of quality control is not free, nor is it inexpensive, so the resultant turbocharger is much more expensive than cheap imitations. Rightly so, and well worth it.
As American consumers, every day we purchase components made in China. That's not in question here. However, there are also a considerable amount of low-quality items being floated about as viable for their intended applications, when in fact they are not. These "no-name" Chinese turbo knockoffs are a great example of this skullduggery.
While many Chinese-manufactured products are of more-than acceptable quality, these turbochargers are not. They are typically merely an exercise in profiteering, where inadequate materials, inexperienced design, and insufficient processes result in a product that is not up to the standards of a modern turbocharger. In many cases, they are also blatant counterfeits of the respected names they mimic, even going so far as to also emboss the "Garrett" name on the cheap imitation.
I can't speak as to your experience with these type Chinese turbo imitations, but I can speak as to mine. It's been very hard to watch people spend their hard-earned bucks on these "turbochargers", just to be massively disappointed when the unit fails. They will contact us for help, for more often than not, by the time the turbo fails, the 'eBay store' they bought it from has closed up and re-opened under a different name. Not only are these poor folks out of luck for warranty support, but they can't even get suitable replacement or repair parts for their unique one-off knockoff. Genuine OEM pieces are not compatible. So, they usually just toss the unit out, and are out their money and time. If they were truly fortunate, they didn't also hurt their car when the unit failed.
Not a good deal, folks. My advice is sound, and based in real fact. Stay away...learn from the mistakes these others have made!

No argument here, hell it wouldn't surprise me one bit if half the chinese turbo's on ebay are actually legit garrett turbos that just failed garrett's QC tests when they were still in china.

Quite unlikely. Like any respectable manufacturer, Garret destroys parts that fail QC inspection. Also like any respectable manufacturer, the incident of such is very low, for Garrett's superior design, materials, and processes inherently result in very few '"rejects".
Good QC is more than a way to ensure customer satisfaction...it also results in efficient manufacturing with a minimum of scrap.

Look into Master Power turbos, they are very cheap, yet reliable. If you want to read about tons of success stories, go read on the Turbo Buick forums or LS1 Tech, guys will tell you they are quite legit.
Otherwise, I have heard of people rebuilding the Chinese turbos with good bearings and seals.
I myself have a Garrett, but I have heard of people who have good luck with rebuilt Chinese turbos, not that I recommend it...
My brother has a $125 ebay 16g that he aquired in some trading,he has it on his 90 Laser RS-T and hes put 15k miles on it, turbo sees 25 psi daily(Also he does not let the turbo cool down after a hard run, He wants to try and make it go out. Been trying for a year lol)
No oil leaks, good boost response,No shaft play. Not all ebay turbos are junk...just most LOL
