boost controler on gmppsc?
Saturday, September 25, 2010 10:45 AM
Any one hooked up a boost controller to the actuator for the supercharger? I know it will not "give" you more boost but I have a smaller then stock pulley and was thinking it could probly regulate how high the boost would get. Ex say I'm at 10psi but would rather be at 8. Hope I'm not sounding like an idiot. If I see this right it should be just like a wastegate. Correct?

A new pulley is not much more money. What's wrong with just buying a larger pulley?

its an old concept. time for something new to take the reigns. - Z yaaaa

Nothing I was just using that as an example. I have like 3 boost controllers here.like if someone else was to drive your car you can lower the boost.I was just wandering. Not that I had any plans to do so

FYI with a 2.8 pulley and the bypass all the way open you will still make 5 psi. idk about any other pulley.

If i understand the cobalt ss/sc system correctly, it electronically controls the bypass valve to bleed of boost if commanded. its basically just a flapper. however, it cannot be used to increase boost without using a smaller pulley. Also, keep in mind that it remains more or less open at low throttle position so that the car remains somewhat fuel efficient.

Leafy, that's good to know, so with the smaller pully and the valve all the way open it makes the same boost as the stock pulley?
Old school, I have the m45 and its vacume operated. And looks just like a wastegate actuator that's what gave me the idea. I know it will not create anymore boost then the pulley will let it.

why would you want less boost?

have you read the RULES yet?

Even with a 2.4" pulley and the M45, if the bypass is open you will see no positive manifold pressure. If you want to regulate your pressure just dont go WOT.

I like the idea of a lower boost setting for those that don't need to romp on your car when driving it or when you shouldn't be, lol, that is mainly why my car will have 2 levels of boost when its boosted, but no idea if it would work on the M45, never thought about it. But I agree a cool idea man.

at what point does anyone driving realize they don't need to be WOT?

I know it sounds kind of odd, but I have two different settings for my turbo because I like the feeling of "flooring it." I understand that I can leave it on high boost and not floor it, but I guess I don't have enough self-restraint to not go WOT. I know I am not the only one ever who thinks this way, lol.

Along with the unintended reflex to floor it when you panic.

the idea you have would be ideal for gear limiting boost. like say m62 situation: 1st gear limited to 5 psi then 2nd shoot up to 12psi and 3rd gear 16psi from a 2.8" pulley on an LD9. Ive been pondering this idea and how to get it to work......

With the greedy joint if it works. When going into second just hit the button for the high boost setting. That's what I was doing when the car was running the turbo.
