Dual Pass Vs. Single Pass
Tuesday, October 26, 2010 1:06 PM
I was on ZZP's site,

So i was trying to determine if the single pass is THAT much better than Dual pass, I mean it looks like a 300 dollar difference

it looks like it creates about 5 or 6 more horsepower, so is it cooling THAT much?

Thoughts opinions...

Looking at that graph it's more than just a few peak HP, it's a consistent 5-7 HP across the whole RPM range. I spent like $165 on lightweight pulleys for my car which might give me a few HP so to me $300 doesn't seem horrible. With that said, I think I remember seeing an article on modding your single pass to make it a dual pass. I could be wrong, I am an LD9 guy after all.

$300 for a dualpass endplate? That's a rip off. I only paid $200 for mine and got $100 back after i send in my stock one. I got mine from OTTP.

I'd be willing to let mine go this winter for a stock endplate....

No, 300 for the single pass...im debating on dual or single, trying to get some input.

Dualpass FTW.

You are still moving the same amount of fluid threw the intake mani, but instead of a single "S" shape it is 2 "U" shapes. With the single pass the fluid enters the manifold and passes threw one lat. core(collects heat), makes a 180* turn, passes threw another lat. core(collects more heat), another 180* turn, another lat. core(even more heat is collected), one final 180* turn, one final lat. core(even more heat) and exits to be cooled. The dualpass shortens the fluids trip by half. The fluid enters the manifold and passes threw the lat. core, makes 180*, passes threw another lat. core then exits.

With the single pass you are trying to remove heat with warm fluid in the bottom passes. The dualpass allows more cooler fluid into the manifold.

Kyle i don't think we're talking about the same thing, I talking about the zzp single pass intake mani, goes in one side and out the other. According to the Dyno chart above^ It cools more granting more HP.

Im interested in it. I wonder if they'll do a ported one with AN fittings....

Lol i guess we are, you think the dual pass is better?

Yea im interested in it also...still trying to determine, plus i still gathering parts...

if if uses the same cores as the stock intake manifold dont even bother. if it uses a bar and plate type exchanger inside the intake then its completely worth it.

The concept of this single pass is better than the dualpass, but im not sure of the execution. But judging by the pics on their website it looks like they retain the stock cores and still moves the same amount of fluid. Personally with that design i'd prefer to see larger ports.

you are thinking stock (4 pass) vs dual pass. this is single pass. 4 inlets & 4 outlets hypothetically. you are still passing water thru one outlet on the opposite side. i don't think it's that big of a benefit. was seeing single pass manifolds for $600+ awhile ago. looks like they have dropped their price quite a bit but is that with a core charge?

do what oldskool is doing, gutting that POS dutch over of a manifold, and having a plate welded in the middle and then running a 2.5" out and 2.5" in..

this will do several things

1. the manifold is so crammed that restriction creates heat, remove most of that restriction heat drops.

2. Air wont be sitting in that manifold, it will be moving through cold pipes and keep cooler as well. less heat soak

3. less restriction is less boost on a roots, but power wont suffer, cooler iat's, and denser air

4. with less boost pressure from less restriction, you'll be able to run smaller pulleys which is more boost and equals more power at cooler iat's

ryan and I discussed this a lot

I was. Then checked it out on ZZP's website. By what i saw on their site it is a $400 manifold with a $400 core charge.
