I was at 290 whp... would of went higher but there was a tuning flaw. I think safely, and for reliability I would stay under the 250 whp mark.

I saw 14psi on my stock motor with the saab setup, never had a problem, but the transmission thought otherwise...

If you get 50k miles out of an eco much above 250whp, i think it's worth it They are pretty easy to come by these days. If you want more out of a stock bottom end, go LE5

I did at least 30k miles at 285whp.

Just never spark knock it, and you'll be fine at the power levels outlined here. The stock powdered-metal rods can be fragile when faced with detonation. 300 engine HP is the upper limit we've set on the stock rods.

I don't think I'll be that close to 300hp but over 250 more than likely specially at the crank...

outside of inadequate tuning, is it possible to reach power levels on a saab turbo set up that will damage an L61? I don't think you can make much over 300hp on the saab turbo right?

My friends Turbo Ecotec has been at 14 psi for a year and now 16 psi. I would say we are right at 280-300 at the wheels which is over 300 crank. We plant ot go to 20psi shortly. Completely stock motor.

Also another guy I know has been 266whp for a long time.

It is all in the tuning, and if more people knew how to tune right or, the shops they took it to knew how to tune right motors would last longer.

My buddies S/C cobalt sedan was right around 261hp on a 2.9". ran like this for six months and 7k miles. Then the piston let go not the rod. Took a chunk out of the top of the piston/ upper ringland and burned the sleeve. Head and rod were fine when I pulled it all apart.
