So I finally got my car to run again and for some reason its running terrible. Whenever I rev it up right around 3k it starts cutting out and then it clears out and revs up. I took it on a drive and it was cutting out when taking off but then the turbo would spool up and hit boost crazy. Keep in mind my A/f gauge is peggin rich when this happens. I replaced my 02 sensor and nothing. It idles fine and at idle it runs right in stoich how it should but you barely press the gas it hits rich. I can not figure it out at all. If anyone has any ideas please help!!!

Ummmmm Why are you reving it up? Also, get a WB O2 and get it tuned.....

Its already been tuned using an hp tuner. It ran fine before i took it all apart and my a/f was fine. When i did a trans swap and repainted all my hard piping then it started running bad after this. I was thinking maybe a boost leak?
Sounds like it, go over what the hands touched! If nothing else was modified I would have to say this points to a boost leak. Or vaccum.
Well this is my first post ever on the org, but i had the same problem when i did my intercooler set up, i did not have a wideband at the time but i know i was running rich as hell, as soon as i even came near boost it would sputter and practically die. It was untuned (not smart) but it ended up being bad gas cuz my car had sat for awhile. check your gas possibly
Tune it ........ WIth a Wideband!!! The only way!!
Ya I was thinking that to. But I can't tune and a local guy said he would do my tune for 550 and plus getting a wideband for 200 im looking at 750. So its gona take a while for me to get that.
contact trifecta. they charge 250.00 + shipping.
yep mail order tune. does he lock it though?
no. its not locked. i had a trifecta tune but i had issues with my ecm so i had it reflashed back to stock so i could have the ecm replaced under warranty
trifecta doesnt lock the ecm. if you have a laptop they will send you a cable with obd2 connector on it. you load the software on your laptop. you load the base tune into your ecm and then you data log. you send the datalog files back to trifecta and they look at them and adjust them as necessary and send the file back to you so you can reflash the updated file. this can go on many times. it took 9 apdated files to dial in my tune. once your happy with your tune you send the cable back via a prepaid package and you get your core refunded.

Actually it WILL be locked... You will not be able to read it with HPT....

thats correct. hptuners is different software. trifecta uses the same format as gm since he worked for gm. locked means your unable to make changes. trifecta does not lock the ecm. i asked. if they did then your dealer wouldnt even be able to access it.

I know what Vince does, I am a Trifecta dealer.... They question at hand is refering to if end user could make changes after is he Trifecta tuned.... The answer is NO, Also, the end customer would also not be able to READ the PCM with HPT therefore it is considered to be locked.... Also, Vince was a Microsoft Engineer before he opened up Trifeca....

IF vince would due base tunes, and then let the customer tweak the tunes to their liking, i think he would make a ton more money. I like the idea of having some remote tuning available, but i would also want to be able to do some things on my own in case of emergencies or what not, or injector changes. just little stuff.
Well I called the guy today about my tune he said that I dont need a wideband cause he has one and come to find out its a dyno tune so even better! I did some asking around and 550 for a dyno tune isnt to bad come to find out. I want some input on this since ive never had it done to any of my cars. Thanks guys!
550 for a dyno tune is really good. average dyno tuning session can cost ~1000.00 and usually takes 4-8 hours.
Wow well that is good for sure. Does anyone have any other opinions?
I thought trifecta wouldn't do boost tunes for the j bodys?
they cover 97-05 cavalier and sunfire 2.2. either 2200 or ecotec 2.2.
thats odd. I just contacted a rep up here a couple months ago and they refused to do my car because it was boosted.
they probably told you that because they didnt want to do it bacause they dont have experience with the 2200. call trifecta, not a rep.
Well I dropped my car off at the tuners place today and wow I was blown away with the cars at his shop. I heard About this guy threw word of mouth and I hope he can tune my j good. Just really nervous, but with the types of cars at his shop i felt alot better that's for sure.
What shop did you end up dropping the cav at?
Its called simpson performance in Stillman valley il. He does alot of tuning on vettes and mustangs and pretty much anything. He had a foxbody stang in their with over 1000hp and runs 8s and is still street driven. His personal car was a 800hp twin turbo z06 vette. My mouth was on the ground the whole time lol.
