M62 or saab kit?
Friday, June 10, 2011 5:55 PM
Hey,
what is the cheapest one to build. A m62 from 2.0 SS/SC or a turbo kit from saab 9.3 2.0 TC? I think turbo would be great but i dont think there so much saab 9-3 with 2.0 turbo in junkyard.

Saab all the way baby! If you search around enough you can find everything you need.

I'm actually going to say m62.
Less fabrication involved, for the Saab kit you'll need a downpipe fabbed up, and if you go intercooled then you'll be fabbing the plumbing for that as well. Extra modifying like this will obviously cost more. I also personally think there are more quantities of m62 kits floating around so your chances of finding a good price on one. Honestly, I can't say that with complete certainty, as i never really looked for or priced out saab kits, but I know for a fact on sites like cobaltss.net, complete (or close to) m62 kits are a dime a dozen.

i'd have to agree on the m62... it's a bolt on affair... no worry about running cold side piping or oil feed and return lines. unbolt your stock intake mani, bolt on the new mani and m62 and your basically done.

if you want more power, there's still alot of room to build. are you going to make big numbers like some turbo setups? no, but you're not going to make big numbers on a saab setup either.

Well, i think both of them can achieve the same power. I will just look at the price and see which one will be the easiest to found!

Thanks for help!

M62 is cheaper and easier. both will make the same power for about the same money up until what the stock internals hold and the mp62 will make more torque. AND most importantly the blower is easier to tune for.

My tig welder runs on about 2 beers per hour so fabrication costs were pretty low for me. Probably paid roughly $800 total for my Saab setup.

I went m62 and im still under a grand after buying the blower, manifold ,heat exchanger, coolant pump, injectors, brackets, ls1 throttle body, and belts. But I got awesome deals on cobaltss.net

Agree, since he said cheapest, in the long run there are just more M62 parts around with which to piece together a kit. Want more power? I'm seeing used TVS blowers going for under 1500 these days, hell even in our own classifieds.

Whatever you choose, just don't cheap out on supporting mods, like a good exhaust, good tuning and adequate cooling and fueling for whatever set up your running.
