as the title states, i adjusted my wastegate arm all the way down today (so there are no more threads showing) and im seeing 5-6psi max. probably a leak somewhere???
what type of boost controller?
Sounds like you may have went the wrong way......
P&P Tuning
420.5whp / 359.8wtq
yeah, go the other direction, or get a boost controller.
lengthening the wastegate arm will lower boost. shortening the wastegate arm will increase boost.
I shortened it all the way, till no threads were left.
and what happened did you reverse it? What worked?
Nothing yet, have not driven it since Sunday. With the wastegate arm all the way short it makes 5-6psi
Check for leaks in any vacuum line, I'm nearby if you need help with it.

If you have leaks in the vacuum line going to the wastegate you will get more pressure, not less. Unless you meant a huge vacuum leak (actually a boost leak then) from something like the brake booster line.
I removed the vac line from turbo to wastegate and I built pressure till I blew a charge pipe off at like 12psi. So I tightened everything up and I'm still only seeing 6psi with the arm as short as it can be. Also at high rpm boost (1,2,3 gears) I'm hearing a high pitched noise before the bov goes off that I don't get in say 5th when I mat it. It almost sounds like the audible shift tone in the rx8. Also out of curiosity how loud is this turbo typically? To me it seems as if its abnormally loud. Like I hear air whooshing while steady at -10vac
My turbo is loud to me, for being such a small turbo it is loud. I suck in a ton of air at -10vac, and you can hear it just fine. Once the turbo starts spinning so fast the sound pitch changes and that might be what you are hearing...
I shift about 5800-6000 when I'm really getting into it, because after that you are just wasting time, you begin to drop power after that and it shows on my time slips at the track. When I was running it at the track I would usually get a pop, kind of a backfire, but not as much when I was shifting around 6000.
Like I said, I'm right near Saginaw too if you are ever out and about on a weekend cruising I could help you out or just meet up to see the setup.
I really don't like how loud this turbo is... I work a lot of weekends but we could meet up maybe one of these weekends, it will be nice to see another J enthusiast that's not mega rice like most around lol. For now I'm fine @ 6psi till i can solve this issue.
I'm gonna say try a boost controller, that would push some more I would think. I have mine set around 10-11psi right now and it's just fine. PM me if you want to meet up sometime, I will be moving back to kalamazoo around August 20th so anytime before then I should be around. I tend to head up to cruise Bay Rd on a thursday or friday night typically.
It would be really nice to know a max# the factory wastegate is good for, if it is maxed out at 6psi then I'm just wasting my time here. Man, chances are if you cruise Bay I have seen you. Just don't recall seeing a red 4 door. There used to be a fairly large group of us that met at the empty parking lot by Culvers right there. Then we moved to the plaza way down state and everyone quit showing up. If the cops shut us down there, we were at Walmart, advanced auto, or Kroger lol
The wastegate on mine opens at around 7-8psi but the controller allows it to go a bit higher, and I don't have it near maxed out yet. PM me if you'd like to meet up this weekend or next maybe.
On a saab they have a ecm ran boost controller. They run about 12 psi.
I'm talking about the mechanical wastegate portion. Not the boost controller. I'm gonna try fixing a charge pipe that's. Crooked and fits kinda funny then probably try a boost controller
I'd get a boost controller either way.
update on this: I did an oil change today so i went and checked all my charge pipes and vac lines. shes still only giving me 6psi. so time to get a Hallman...
Well finally scooped up a Hallman Pro RX for the right price. Now boosting at 10psi

You have a leak some where. This is -10 at idle right?

i had the same problem get a can of carb cleaner and spray it around your injectors while its at idle thats where i lost all my boost..... not saying yours are leaking but its worth a check.... carb cleaner was my best leak finder
