Okay so now I have a left over Cobra H/E after the ZZP install and I realized that there is room under the car, behind the radiator support to place it horizontaly. So I pondered and realized the I could run it as a second radiator or heat exhanger, but which one???
As a second heat exchanger it would have coolant flowing through it thanks to the Bosch intercooler pump and would get cooled when driving, especially on the freeway.
As a second radiator the 3/4" fittings would only work with the the reservoir hosing. So one side would connect to the lower radiator hose T off hose and the other side would connect to the reservoir tank. But this would not flow much since it is not actively pumped by the water pump, but slightly moved by the pressures and excess coolant pouring into the reservoir from the radiator and upper hose bleeder ports. So it'd be more like extra coolant.
So my question is which would be best, any pros/cons, any reason why this would be a bad idea?
first question i have, why would you WANT a second radiator?? If your current radiator keeps your car at operating temp then why pay for a second one.....also keep in mind the radiator can only keep the engine as cool as the thermostat , which is usually at proper operating temperature and i dont think youd want it any cooler............just my thoughts.
also as a 2nd heat exchanger i dont think youd want it BEHIND the radiator. getting the 100* air up front is one think...getting the 200* air behind the radiator seems to be the opposite of what you want....i think

It would not be behind the radiator exactly. Picture the air dam that we have under the radiator support. It would rest along a perpendicular line intersecting the vertical air dam. So no expelled 200*F radiator air would hit it, but only air passing from under the bumper. I've been having a horrible time trying to get this car to cool down. Got dual fans on the radiator, external tranny cooler with it's own fan, extra air dams, replaced all cooling system components (i mean everything; water pump, thermo (x2), radiator, hoses, etc.), upgraded the intercooler, new intercooler pump, dual pass and I am still having problems.
You don't need a second heat exchanger, you need to fix whatever is wrong with your car. Going back to your other post about your motor temps rising after installing the ZZP h/e...something in your cooling system isn't working correctly, end of story. Nothing in adding or changing a h/e will make your motor run hotter.
You say you changed the water pump, t-stat, etc. Go back and check everything again. And then yet another time. Something in your cooling system is not right, and it has nothing to do with any heat exchanger. Did you use the right t-stat and is inthe right direction? Is the water pump installed correctly and running correctly? Are your hoses routed properly and free of clogs...big thing I would check for is air in the system. If you had the water pump out then there's a good chance you have air trapped on the system and that is making it run hot.
Adding a 2nd h/e is not going to help, if you have a dual pass, ZZP h/e, and a reservoir, then you have PLENTY of coolant in that system. Tink is running the same cooling system on a 2.9" pulley and is maintaining low IATs. A 2nd h/e at this point is just 1) adding excess coolant to be heated up, and in turn add to the blower's heat, and 2) making your IC pump work even hard, which is going to shorten it's lifespan. Plus, with a ZZP, there is no need for another, the cores in those are massive, and a dual pass design. He'll, im running just a Cobra h/e on a 3.1" pulley and I'm seeing average temps, as well as no change in motor temp.
Long story short, there is a problem in your car's cooling system, and has nothing to do with the h/e setup, and adding another will not solve your issue, just add more headaches. I would seriously consider making sure the cooling system is COMPLETELY free of air, then go from there.
