New pulley help
Thursday, September 08, 2011 10:42 AM
I've had the M62 kit on my 05 for almost 3 years now with the pulley that came with kit (not sure size) and no HE. What do I have to buy if I wanna go to a 3.0 or 3.1 pulley and have more boost? I'm assuming an 03/04 Cobra Heat exchanger would work fine. I only dyno'd like 175 with the kit and full exhaust with the GM reflash. Although my number is lower because I'm automatic

Thanks for any advice on getting more boost/horsepower through my Ecotec!

Eric

You deff need an heat exchanger. I would get an dual pass also. The more cooling the better
Your numbers are low because your getting heat soaked bad from not having any cooling mods

what dual pass exchanger is the best? I'll also need a coolant tank and pump correct?

I really like my ZZP S3. A dualpass endplate is also a very good idea. A 3.1" pulley is just about as far as you can go on the Crapflash.

I would get a decent heat exchanging system set up and then drop to like a 3.0" or 2.9" pulley with a custom HPTuners tune.

Ok well I don't wanna change the tune (Don't wanna spend the money) so I'll just do a 3.1 with a heat exchanger LIKE A BOSS.

How stupid would it be to throw a 3.1 on there without a H/E setup?

Lower pulley = more heat. More heat = less power. It would reduce your gains.

also look into phenolic spacers, they will help with heatsoak.....and hit up the junk yard for a H/E rest tank lots of cars have overflow tanks you can use for your H/E setup. I know for fact the Chevy Aveo overflow tank works just fine, has a 3/4 outlet and inlet and is small enough to mount about anywhere.

That thing will heat soak like crazy. I'm running a 3.1 with a stock endplate, cobra h/e, and extra coolant tank and I'm running IATs of of 150-160 after a hard pull. I'll definitely be running a dual pass and ZZP S3 h/e in the near future.

So with the 3.1 and the ZZP S3 h/e setup you guys think I'd be pushing 200whp pretty easy?

Without a doubt. I'd guess more like 210-215whp depending on the dyno.

Damn, so I need the ZZP S3, a pulley kit, a tank and pump?

I might actually just buy this crap and have my installer put it on soon lol

You dont HAVE to get the tank, NEED to get the H/E and pump.

For those of you all running 3.1 and 3.0 pulleys, what size injectors are you using?

With the 3.1 pulley, will I need the LSJ Stage 2 belt?

Basically I'm getting confused, can I buy pretty much everything for the LSJ as far as supercharger stuff goes?

The kits injectors (36#) will work with the 3.1" pulley but any smaller pulley and you'll need Stage 2 injectors (42#) or (60#) and be completely safe...

I'm running a 3.1 with 60# injectors and I have a lot of head room...I don't think we're pushing beyond 60% duty cycle.

ZZP, stay away from OTTP their customer service sucks at best.

I would get the zzp s3 heat exchanger, the pump, and possibly dual pass endplate all from ZZP.

Check out Smoothflow Pulleys for the pulley, stage 2 hub, and the hub removal/installer tool.

You should be able to pick up the intercoolor pump bracket from cobaltss.net dirt cheap (and possibly even injectors). Injectors are also an easy find on craigslist or eBay, I see lsj injectors for like $50-75, or you can usually find ford green tops (42#) for less than $100

I'm not getting new injectors or a dual pass endplate... I'm keeping the 36# injectors with my GM flash.

So:
ZZP S3 Heat Exchanger
ZZP 3.1" Pulley

I can't find a pump on the ZZP site (links would be nice!)

I found this pump on eBay:
eBay Bosch Pump for $88

Do I need the stage 2 belt for the 3.1" pulley???

Re: New pulley help

actually that's a good deal on a used one. ZZP is $106 which it is the same bosch pump. I'm going to have to get a pump as well and am considering this for sure!

As far as the belt goes it depends. As JUCNBST has experimented with optional spacers for reducing heat transfer. If you run these spacers then the stock belt should fit pretty tight but without them id so the stock wouldn't fit

Now about the injectors... I'm gonna go a head and be the first to say that its a bad idea to run the #36 with a 3.1 pulley.

Side note. How in the world are you guys with the S3 heat exchanger fitting it? I just put in a cx racing to replace my cobra one that got bent to hell, and it was either going to be the lowest part of the car,or get angled the way that I angled it.

I know tinkle shared some information on the S3 one time... One thread tinkle has a picture on Not sure the size of the cx racing one is compared to the s3. Also i noticed CXracing has a $60 pump...has anyone had any experience with it?

I actually just bought a kenne bell H/E so hopefully i have no problems with it fitting
