Recntly bought a cavi with a supercharged ecotec. dyno showed 260hp at the wheels.
When I bought it the lower end was bad.
So I want to beef up the lower endd in the new motor. What parts are most common to go on the 2.2 ecotec
Rods/wrist pins and the ringlands on the pistons.
So far we have decided on putting wrist pins and rod bolts on it.
I figured with the low hp that rods wouldn't b an issue
if you are going to tear the bottom end apart, replace it all....rod pistons bearings whole 9 yards....otherwise tearing it part is a waste of time and money.

GM only rates the bottom end to 250hp. I've seen N/A ecos shatter ring lands. They are very thin and do not like bad tunes.
Ok we will do ring lands too.

I think t was 277hp for the rods, but that was on juice. This site has proven the rods can take more.
Without a doubt the ringlands are the weak link in the ecotec. So pistons are a must. If your doing that might as well do rods.

Yea, i know. I just decided to quote the build book this time.

You don't really have a clue about motor parts, do you? You can't change ringlands, you have to replace the whole piston.
Please take your car to a professional immediately.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

I know what ring lands are.
Yes I mean pistons! Haha
I read if u run a tighter gap on the compression ring when running boost it helps against blowing when a surge happens. Would this be a good alternative to new pistons.

This is something that yes can be done. The stock Ecotec pistons hae very small/weak ringlands, so it can only help so much.
Also what exactly on the bottem end was bad?

Wrist pin. Guy said when he was racing and when he let off the throttle is when it started knocking.
Just replace the rods, pistons, bearings and be done with it. The pistons are going to come with everything else you need i.e. wrist pins, rings, rod bolts.

Ding ding ding,there you go^^
You bought Cody's car, aka 02Cavicrusin? If your going through the hassle to pull the thing apart, look for used rods/piston if your on a budget or just get new stuff. Regardless. Once you get your parts ballance the rotating assembly so everything plays nicely and lasts. Also I'd delete the ballence shafts as well if down the line you plan on cams.
Just my.02
Yup, my old Cav. I would just do like I was planning until I lost interest.
2.4 le5 bottom end and 2.2 head.

You sir^ have a lot of parts!
And yea were not quite sure what were doing yet.
I appreciate everyones help! It took a while and a lot of reading but I think finally I understand all the electronics on the car
and everyone agrees on 1 thing pistons! Haha
I looked at Eric's block as well..but its a block better built for a turbo.
