I put this here because I figure more people have built their bottom end in the boost section than any other on the forum. I put my crank and bearings in, all lubed up, and did all the torque and degreeing. now that I am going to check the rods clearances, I noticed just how difficult the caps are to remove. I got all of them loose in a vise using my soft jaws and a rubber mallet. my problem is how am I got to get them off again after they are down in the engine. I see lots for videos of the V-8 guys doing it, but their crank are not buried down in a girdle like ours are, and many of those had bolt installed in the large end with nuts. we have bolts. can I just tap on the bolts after I loosen them again with a brass drift and not tear stuff up?
flat head and a rubber mallet. tap up on the cap from the side and they will loosen up.
