just kind of a random question...depending on the kind of setup, if u hit ur revlimiter with a turbo, u can blow the motor, correct? why is this and does the same thing apply to a S/C?
yes because we have fuel cut limiters and not spark cut limiters like most factory cars.
Although you can change this with an msd like some of us have, that way if you hit the limiter it is the msd's spark cut, mine is set at 6200

i hit the rev limiter b4 under boost. i have seen others do it. one guy i knew hit the rev limiter with a 100 shot of nitorous and all is well.

no not at all. it cuts the fuel completly out ALL together.
no fuel +spark = nothing
not enough fuel =spark = boom

so youre saying that theres no way you could run lean (even temporarily) when hitting the rev limiter, justin?
Justin is correct. A fuel cut is perfectly safe.

wow, i can't believe i didn't think of that
oh well, now i know
thx guys
wait, then why do people run window switches with nitrous? if you hit the rev limiter, shouldnt ALL the fuel be cut off? doesnt that mean that even when spraying, no damage would be done?
It cuts the fuel by turning off the injectors, if you hit the rev limiter using a WET kit you are spraying a TON of air (nitrous = just a crapload of oxygen) and a TINY bit of fuel... the fuel in the wet kit is to supplement the normally injected fuel to compensate for the extra oxygen...
So with a nitrous kit, the rev limiter kicks in and the nitrous still sprays along with the supplementing fuel, so you still get a burn... which happens to be EXTREMELY lean and EXTREMELY HOT. So ouch.

if you have an auxilary injector set-up, it is independant of the stock computer. That should be all the fuel you need to blow the motor. Thank god for the MSD and spark cut.

I have hit the limiter several times on the 75 shot --- guess I have been lucky - but nothing happened

good to know. i know i hit the limiter once boosted. scared the @!#$ out of me.
I hit the limiter all the time in mine, the BOV is much louder when i let it rev up and let off JUST as it hits the limiter, hits full 6psi that way but nowhere close if i let off any earlier.
I cant count how many times ive hit it and had no probs.

so the verdict is as follows (correct me if im wrong):
Stock Rev limiter will hurt if:
------------------------------------
-Wet Nitrous System
-Turbo System with extra injectors
Stock Rev limiter will NOT hurt if:
-----------------------------------
-Dry Nitrous System
-Turbo system with no extra injectors
Its quite simple really.. If you hit the fuel cut point, ALL FUEL MUST BE CUT.. This won't hurt the car at all. If you have an additional source of fuel not controlled by the computer doing the fuel cut, which continues to inject fuel, then you can get into trouble. If you have such a computer installed in your car you should know this...
