Turboed 98 z24 keeps dying at random. Will start right back up once in a while, but mostly will not and just puts as the starter turns. Twice now I have had to get towed because the car just wouldnt start. I have a msd dis-2, walbro 255lph and 2 secondary 450cc injectors in addition to the stock 240's. Sometimes it will start back up and run very @!#$ty. Almost like its getting starved of fuel, or running a cylinder low. If I hit the gas, it will just make it bog and it will stall. I am thinking it's a fuel delivery issue now. Howveer, at first I thought it was ignition related. Therefore, I have alreadyrepalced the ignition switch under the dash, ignition controle module, and coil packs. Car ran fine for a day and then stalled out on me again. This is what I dont understand:
If it is a fuel problem and it is stalling out becaues it is getting starved, why does it start back up a few hours later and run mint for the next few days until it stalls again? If I part was @!#$ting the bed, wouldn't it just stop working completely instead of being intermittent? Any help is appreciated. This is really pissing me off... Thanks guys

ok first off, that secondary system is crap. you have the ability to run aftermarket injectors. get yourself some 310cc RC Engineering injectors or some 32# mustang injectors or something. And then tune the car with an SAFC or go with an E-manage or something. Pull your plugs and see what color they are. I bet you are leaning out horribly.

why dont you get a Fuel/air gage to find out if you are running lean or rich before you go changing all your stuff.

pulling the plugs will tell you the same thing, more accurately than a $40 narrow band o2 gauge. after you get this fuel system addressed and resolved, it'd be in your best interest to invest in one of the Innovative LM-1 wideband o2 controller kits.

does this only happen when it is hot outside?
reason being some people have had issues with the 255 pump when it is really hot out. there is a post in the performance forum a while back about it.
good luck
and i have heard of people having problems with the msd stuff also.
i gave him some ideas last night , how much he will remember depends how tired he was , LOL
lol, i do have a wideband, however it is hooked up to my laptop (zeitonix) which explains why I don't always have it hooked up. I will keep it ooked up from now on and see if its going rich or lean when it shuts off...Also, I don't believe this is related to the secondary injectors. And yes, the majority of the days around here have been hot, but it's hot here almost every day this time of year. Thanks guys

me thinks its the MSD...something isnt jiveing with your car and that msd, but thats just a guess..
im leaning towards the pump, or the wiring for the pump.
...... maybe a bad ground on it..... idk

I'm thinking pump as well. If the car stopped, it would not just start up again if the wires on the msd or pump are moving. I think either the msd or pump is overheating...Hard to say and really really frusturating

Did you ever think that you actually might be going really rich instead of lean? Maybe your going soo rich that you flood it out...then after it sits for awhile is starts again? Just a thought. Check your plugs or get your wideband.
I'm very new into turbos (just got the car back yesterday). Anyway, when I dropped my car off to have the kit installed the guy couldn't say enough BAD things about my MSD ignition and a turbo kit. He said most of the time if there's a problem with the turbo car and it has an MSD ignition, it turns out to be the MSD. He's done about 20 turbo setup's on Honda/Acura's and even has a turbo Type R himself. Sounds like the MSD could be your problem.
Today I pulled the msd unit and put the ignition back to stock. Tonight the car died again and I had to get it towed home. After it died, I checked the fuel lines and there was NO pressure whatsoever. This leads me to believe that my walbro 255 must have been defective. Maybe this is why the car is leaning out in the upper rpm's too. Well I guess I finally cracked this one...

glad to hear you got it worked out.
keep us updated
let us know what you find out with the pump
Yea just weird that it didn't start right back up. When it gave out, it was out for an hour or more before it started back up again. I caught this thread and it seemed as if everyone else with my problem could start their cars right back up.
