"ETS off" is on and hard shifting!
Friday, August 19, 2005 9:45 PM
ok i finally got the turbo on my 2.4 from leo at JTuners. First thing is when i put it in drive it shifts real hard and jerks and does this from 1st to 2nd but after 2nd it shift ok. Also my "ETS off" light is on so could this be the problem? Im running on stock injectors and fuel pump and dont worry those are in the works. I havent hooked up the boost gauge yet but my air/fuel is and its readying fine so i watch that for now. any suggestions?

Generally hard shifting in an automatic is caused by a faulty IAT sensor.. Do you have it in your charge pipes before your TB?

You have a vacuum leak. I long time ago when i put the RSM intake manifold on my car i forgot to connect one of the vac lines to the tb or intake mani ( i don't remember which) and it gave me the same results, super hard shifting and the ETS light was on.

where is that vacuum line source on the intake manifold located?

we were trying to figure it out yesterday, and i didn't see it, but we didn't look for long because it was late, anyone know exactly where it is?

Could this be it i noticed this wasnt kooked up to anything, there was a hose going from that to my intake at one point but not its just opened.

Thats not it, just put a small breather filter on the end of it.

that actually could be it. that tube is supposed to go into a pipe on the black silencer, and when you took the silencer off to install that intake and left that pipe hanging, it could be causing the problems.

as far as i know that is only a breather tube, dont think its a vacuum, but thats a good place to start if the rest of the lines are hooked up right into the TB.

good luck

You don't have an Autotrans interceptor hooked up do you? Mine used to acted like that when I had mine installed...just a thought though.

that tube is the pcv breather and you are best to put a breather of some kind on it but definately dont lave it open like that. i have the shift plus and that makes my trans shift harder but it snot harsh .... only vacum lines i recall were the short one to the factory map and another for the fuel pressure regulator but i havent torn mine completly apart yet may be more on the other side of the manifold. ????

No that wouldn't be causing problems...
put a breather filter on there but that won't be whats wrong with it.
is your iat hooked up? or were is it?

is it the light that comes on when you pull your ebrake?
if so my car had the same problem and it was the iat sensor. you may have knocked one of the wires loose that goes into the iat, or maybe you need a new one.

If its your IAT Sensor, I have a quick funny story. I am about to also g et J-turners turbo, but before I go on .. I kept blowing my IAT sensor... and I was using the RKSport intake, what I ended up doing, after about 5 sensors was take it to this guy in Prescott.. he had a great idea, he got me a Caddy IAT sensor, the end is different, its like a metalish end, almost like spark plug, I forgot what year he took it out of, but we plugged it directly in, same volts etc.. and my CEL is off, and the car is driving hella better.. no clue if it'd help you.. b ut wanted to letcha know. I have my IAT now just under the fuse box, where the old stock intake plum starts. =D

no more CEL =D w00t
