California state legal turbo kit?????
Sunday, October 23, 2005 3:42 PM
I have been searching and searching just about everywere that I can think of trying to find a California state legal turbo kit aka CARB approved.
I have talked to a few places that sell turbos and they all told me in order to pass the emission test every other year, not just the turbo, but the whole turbo system has to be removed just to have the car tested approx. 15 minutes. It's the visual test that won't pass.
I don't know anybody who does emission test that can keep it on the down low so I don't have to take off the turbo kit.
If anybody knows of any Cali state legal turbo kits, please, please let me know.
What else can I do to gain hp and torque? I'm trying to stay away from super chargers.
NOS is kida running thru my head, but I don't know just yet.
Please help me out.

Thanks to all for your help.

I dont think you looked hard enough before answering.
This is the only CARB legal kit for the eco that I know of. Yes its a Saturn kit but its for the ecotec AND it can be easily adapted to any eco car.

Quote:

Compatibility Notes: The kit can also be made to fit any Ecotec powered GM vehicles.

This is off their press release, so yes its only the price tag that stands in your way.

You can find the kit here.

^^ I saw that kit at the 2003 Sema show. It's waaaay different than the eco 2.2. And the carb # is for the car it's tested on. He also doesn't have an ecotec engine. Sooooo....

Its for the ecotec motor.

And as far as the CARB approval, they claimed to have approval for more than one eco platform.

But I didnt notice he had an I4.

So ..... oops

Why not find some corrupt person at a podunk shop and have them approve you? Cash is a universal language everyone understands.

I don't need a damn sig.

you can as long as it is a factory turbo , or a turbo kit that has been CARB approved

other wise no you can have a turbo with out getting nailed by the police for illegal aftermarket parts
