my buddy has a automatic in his '99 cav with the 2200 and has it taken out to paint the engine bay, well he just bought another comuter car, a '96 with a 2.2 and the trans is cooked, well my ( his ) question is can the trans from the '99 go into the '96? is it the same trans? he called me and said the casting #'s on them are different other than that they look identical. thanks in advance.

He needs to double check the bolt pattern, the shift cable linkage, the mounts, etc....My guess is the 2200 and the 2.2L used a slightly different tranny, but I am not too knowledgable about the 2.2L engines.

thanks for the input, anyone else have any clue on this. both trans look to be the same but we dont want to do the work to replace it then it not work when were done
