I have a 97 cav 2.4 5sp and I found a 92 geo DOHC tranny. Is this the best option for my car? I just whant something better for 1/4 mile races.
DOHC eh?
what are the ratios of 3rd and 4th? I think most 2.4 guys are swapping to 3rd and 4th from the 2.2 motor. Im not sure what the DOHC used. SOHC 3rd and 4th are exactly the same as the 2.2.

Everything looks good but the impluse storm SOHC 1st gear should be 3.727, its the same as the 2.4 1st gear just rounded 3.727 = 3.73 rounded.
Some of the other trannys have the same gear, some rounded some not, like 2.04 =2.043, and 1.448 = 1.45 rounded, 1.027 = 1.03 rounded.
Some folks round to the 1st decimal place other folks round to the 3rd decimal place, but they are infact the same gears. Make sense?
Ya, makes sense completely
But Im starting iwth a 2.2, and I wanted to use the geo first since my 3.91 sux...
especially when i make 250ftlbs at 3500rpms

Thanks to all who posted. So in short what gears should I use to help my 1/4 mile times? What is the best set up? Is there a limited slip differential in any of these transmissions that will help? I have a million questions but I will keep it short. I am not looking for a miracle part just enough to keep these honda drivers in their place.
Swapping 3rd and 4th to the 2.2/SOHC/DOHC would be your best bet. The 2.4 gears are really tall after 2nd so....
For a LSD there really isnt much out there. You can get a Phantom Grip. Usually for mildly modded motors they work fine. If your making lots of power they tend to do nothing from what I have heard.

Can anyone tell me what year 2.2 tranny gears I will need?
I believe all 2.2s have the 3rd and 4th gears you will need.

Thanks for the info. Now I have to find a 2.2 tranny.
If you just want a couple gears I have em man. May be cheaper and easier than getting them yourself. Just email me.

juicedz4 I tried to email you but got no answer. I wanted to know what shipping would be to 44120 for 3rd and 4th gear from the 2.2 tranny.
Melaza,
Sorry, it has been nuts around here lately with the new baby and all.
I dont have any more 3/4 gears left that would work for you.
All I have is one more older diff with machined gears. $200 shipped
Sorry.
I may be getting some more of these in the near future.
I will post when I do.
