Just wondering on how to tell if your shiftcables or shifter is worn out?
I noticed that my shifter doesn't glide through the gears as smooth as in my friends car (isuzu)
Is it possible that I have a stretch shift cable?
When I shift I usually hear clunks,
what could this be?

not sure man, I broke a shift cable on day just drivin normal. I got a almost brand new set that i put in a month before i crashed my car. Im parting it out so if you want em make a resonable offer. They were $125 new from GM. You may have worn cables or youre shifter bushing could be worn.

i hate to be a pesimist... but if you hear clunking, i'd think there are bigger problems than your shift cables
yea clunking is BAD. Is it only when you shift? Cause it could be your syncros.

i think i have th same problem he has..
no clunking but 1st for me is hard to get into and it just doesn't glide smoothly when you shift.. not like it used to .

My shifts have been hard for about a year.. struggling to get it into gear.. well finally my shifter wore out and i got the B&M shifter from karo. Installed it.. still didnt feel right, it was actually harder to get into gears. it was the cables. one way to see is snap off the cables on the transmission and that little arm with the cables on it should move up and down and side to side easy. you should be able to engage gears and hit neutral and rev, etc.. you can check the cables by popping them off the transmission then go inside the car and move the shifter around. should move freely and without any problems. my cables were actually worn out of the insulation and the insulation was moving on and off the bell housing so it wasnt even hitting the shifts right.
