Hey i have some questions for everybody. I have found some really good parts for my car and i even on planning on turbocharging it too, but iam really worried about the trans. and i was wondering if anybody knows what kind of upgrades are there for auto trans. .I have a 2002 2.2/2200 cavalier and the only parts i found are a B&M shifter plus and trany coolers. I would like to know if anybody knows what other parts are there i would really like to get a stall conventer with a stall of around 2500-2800. THANK YOU.
well, i'm guessing it's a 4-speed, because I don't think they put 3-speeds in cars past 2001, so here's what I recommend:
Since you'll be putting out 250-275 horsepower at most, all you really need is either an
Autotrans Interceptor or
B&M Shiftplus (where to buy). The transmission is rated by GM to hold 300lb-ft of torque, and I don't think you'll be able to reach that easily with a 2.2, so no worries there.
As far as torque converters, I'm almost certain that you can find them at
Yank Racing. I think that you would get farther calling, though, since the site doesn't seem to be working right now. Also,
look here.
You can put a
Phantom Grip LSD into the automatic, but you have to send your differential in for them to install it.
Also, for about $2500 you can buy a fully-built 4t40e, but I can't find the link right now for that. Hopefully someone else can help you out with that.
Also,
read this. Lots of good info there
so do i have a 4t40e transmission or what if so how much power would it hold since you said it will hold around 300lbs-ft. and by the way my car is going to be daily driven. Is it really worth buying a phantom grip and dose anyone have them on there car. And what kind of upgrades are ya'll running on your auto J's.
Yes you have a 4t40e.
I'm sure the stock trans would be fine with a trans cooler and shift plus/ autotrans.
If you're planning on more than 300 ft/lbs of torque, then I would recommend replacing the clutch packs with a better set.
And my auto 2200 has a K and N filter.
^^Home made sig^^ ghetto, I know.

Manual trannies have a clutch between the engine and the transmission to transfer the engines power to the transmission when it is engaged(clutch pedal released). Automatic transmissions have internal clutches that engage/disengage when the transmission shifts. The torque converter on an auto transfers the engines power to the transmission just as a clutch does for a manual trans. Just as when you have more hp you need to have a stronger clutch for a manual, you also need stronger clutches among other parts in an automatic.
so where do i find those clutches your talking about and would a flywheel help for my auto cavy
Is a tranny cooler really worth it?

i heard that a trans. cooler really helps. i have a friend thats has a 95 civic and he has an auto with a trans. cooler and he says that if it wasn't for that cooler that he would have to get a new transmission a long long time ago.
You don't have a flywheel in your transmission, only manuals use flywheels.
i was also curious as to where to buy better clutch packs. < anyone have any info about this?
