My plans was to run a 3speed auto trans w/ flywheel and shift kit with a z24 motor. i wanna know is it possible that the trans will fit onto the motor?
why not go for the 4 spd?

anything is possible, if you have time and money. and making the bell housings fit, i hope you have some good amount of #2
autos dont have fly wheels, we have flex plates... a bit different than a fly wheel.
and is it a direct bolt up.... nope... plus you;d have to get a computer reflash that would recognize the 3 speed.
any reason to go down a transmission? being you can do the same thing to a 4 speed, you would have a wider range of gearing options.
the only reason why i was doing a 3 speed is because, thats the kind of trans i have now and i have a 2.2. My stepfather told me to keep the 3speed because on the track, you'll only go up to third gear so he told me 2 do the 3 speed auto w/ a shift kit.
i beleave bob mulls evil Z is a three speed Z24 turbo. So the answer to your ? is yes. It can be done if you have the money.

well if you think that way, you won't be fast on the quarter mile.
never hear of gear ratio? that's what you have to look for. the 4 speed will have a better ratio since the 3rd is not for cruising as much as the 3rd speed of a 3spd.
It's like asking "why should I use a 5speed manual transmission when I can use a 4spd, I will only take 4 gear."
a gear more will give you a better acceleration.

from his page....
Quote:
Level 10 Custom Built Stage 3 Automatic Transmission
under his stock specs, it lists a 4 speed auto.
stage 3 and 3 speed, def two different things... but not saying he doesnt cause i dont know for sure, but all z24s came with 4 speed autos or 5 speed manual.
if he merely got the tranny rebuilt then its still a 4 speed auto.
like said, you;d def have to do some bellhousing mods, then find a computer that isnt expecting to recognize the 4 speed electronic tranny, but a mechanically shifting 3 speed auto.

hes kinda right.
theres alot of gear ratios to chose from, from 2.84 to 3.93 i believe. i know they have up to 3.73. if need be i can check the gm shop manual for ya.
i,myself, went from 2.84 to 3.08
what did changing the ratio like that do for you? better acceleration or what?

you know it.... that and oddly enough i get better gas mileage.
i was avg around 370 full tank, now i am well over 400 with reg driving.
how do you go about uping gear ratios?

witha gear ratio set.
includes gears and chains
lol.. where can you get such things??? how much roughly do they cost
any local transmission place can get these things and install em...
thats all i did, found a local reputable place, and they have all the up to date catalogs... just tell em what you want.
alright i look into that thanks alot
