Im thinking of buying a new cavi,.
Now the only reason I want to buy a new one as opposed to my 96 z24 is because i hate the isuzu 5spd tranny, for many reasons. the sloppyness, and the reverse grinding.
Now I will be buying a 2000 cavalier because it comes with a getrag and i dont mind buying it with a 2.4 motor or a 2200 motor, but my question here, is does the 2000 cavaliers with the 2200 motor come with a getrag tran ny.

The Isuzu trans was in the Cavy's until 02. The Getrag wasn't put in until the 03-05 series.
Proof... My mom's Cavy is a 2000, and has the 2200 with the isuzu trans. The Z24's may come with the Getrag, that I'm not sure about. I know for a fact thuogh that the stock 2000-02 Cavalier do NOT come with the getrag.

I know for a FACT that it does. The Isuzu died in 99, the Getrag was introduced in 2000. My cavy is a 2000 with the 4T40E, I've seen NUMEROUS 2000's with the Getrag, and have never seen one with an Isuzu...
Also... the Auto trannies are neither Isuzu or Getrag. John is right.

huh ya 2000 and + is Getrag. If you feel any grinding noise n the trans thats maybe your getrag whining

i always put it in 5th b4 i go into reverse, hasnt grinded on me since i started doing that
My friend had a 98Z24, and he went to school for becoming a mechanic and all that fun stuff, and when me and him were talking about Cavy's, he mentioned that the Getrag was put in during 03, but that it was on some Z24's too.

ohh god... my 96's Cav Izusu = pure @!#$. a big part in my decision to buy a 2000 + cav (z24) was becasue of the Sports suspension upgrade and the getrag tranny.. Shifting = a hell of alot smother and better in general.
Getrag > izusu.
