Differential Problems?
Friday, June 24, 2005 3:59 PM
When i drive, I hear a screaching clicking noise comming from the engine bay. I drive a 2001 Chevy Cavalier Z-24. I especially hear it when I accelerate to hard, drive uphill or turn right. I've already checked all the CV joints, they are all good. Is it the differential or what else would cause this noise?

I have replaced the tranny in my car a few times already. Mine has never screached while it was giving trouble.

What kind of screaching is it?

JUST GUESSING, HAS THIS CAR EVER BEEN WRECKED? SOUNDS LIKE YOU GOT A MOTOR TOUCHING THE BODY AND MAKING NOISE THROUGH THE BODY.

I bought this car used, I noticed a few dings but they repaired the paint with what looks like fingernail polish.
The sound didn't start right away. I tried to get on a curb to get under my car to tighen my headder bolts. After that test drive, i noticed the noise. Even had my syncros and cluch replaced. that didn't solve the problem.

when you said header bolts it gave it away to me. Check your downpipt there is these two prong like metal pieces that go just under the exhaust and about a week after i put my rk 4:2:1 header on it started and it was loud! very anoying and it kinda freaked me out but all I did was lift it and it doesnt look like it touches but I saw scratches on it like it was rubbing aganst it and I took pliers and a prybar and bent them down and fixed it thought I would just mention it but you might have already fixed it by now
