5 speed tranny oil other than GM synchromesh?
Sunday, July 24, 2005 7:53 PM
I am going to be putting a new Isuzu 5 speed tranny in my car hopefully this week and evan though I get a discount on the GM synchromesh transmission fluid I cant afford 3 or 4 bottles of the stuff at 7 bux a piece. What other oil can be substituted for the over priced GM tranny fluid?

Why are you using 3-4 bottles? It takes a little bit less than 2 quarts to fill, I think. That is around $20.00 withy any discounts.

Alot of the Honda guys use the GM Syncromesh in their street/drag cars without any problems. They say that it helps reduce grinding in their transmissions. I am using the GM Syncromesh in my trans that gets beat up on the track with slicks. I have not noticed any grinding.

You'd like better using sh**y fluid in your tranny than buying 2 bottle for 14$? You really have a problem.

Most of the other fluid will cost pretty much the same thing or really close so why cheap out? You'd like better changing the tranny because you were to cheap to buy tranny fluid 2-3 $ more than the cheap stuff?

^^^^^ yea if you can spend the $$ to buy a brand new isuzu trans then you have the $$ to spend 15-20$$ on some tranny fluid....if not you should have waited a little while to do the swap

no one makes a substute for GM syncromesh, buy it and you'll be doing yourself and the tranny a favour. Its whats recommended straight from the factory stick with it.

Don't listen to some guy that claims that stuff doesn't work, GM has qualified engineers that have made the tranny and have decided that the syncromesh fluid works the best, people will and have told u that GM synrcomesh fluid is really good, if you want to go ur way go for it but don't come back here and complain that ur tranny is gone.

Castrol make a substitue for the Synchromesh. The call it synchromesh. I bought 2 bottle for 2$ less than the Gm one and I had to flush the fluid after 50km because it's not good.

$7 bux a bottle is cheap compared to what the dealer qouted me. They said something like 15 per bottle. Anyways, i use Penzoil Synchromesh, and i think it's about the same price for what you're gonna pay for GM's fluid. I say go for the good stuff

Look man nobody is trying to be a dick, but they have pretty much answered your question. You might save 10 bucks (whoopdeefrickin-doo) thats a pizza on a Saturday night you might have to go without, to get what is considered the quality fluid over the competition.
Goodluck on your tranny install.

Thanks guys for all the usefull info. For all the "dont be cheap" guys with your useless posts, yea, like I said give me the money. Im not one to take the cheap route if you checked my mod list you would see that. Its called being severly broke and doing what it takes to get my car back on the road. For some reason buying a 400 dollar tranny, 2 89 dollars axles, almost 300 dollars worth of PC equipment(mine fried and I have to have a PC for several personal/business reason) paying bills and several other recent money costing issues that happened in the last couple of weeks has left me quite broke. Soooooo that leaves me down to saving every last buck I can for the next couple of weeks.

Not trying to say don't be cheap. I was trying to do the same thing you were doing. After reading a number of post a couple years back and some issues people had by not using the GM Sychromesh. I decided to get the Synochromesh.

On another notw. There is another place you can get the Synchromesh. Superlube. has it, no one sells this stuff. Superlube buys it in bulk. So i took two empty oil bottles to Superlube and paid them about $3.00 or $5.00 to fill it up. There is a reason why other car buff buy this stuff. GM must have some patent on the stuff.

Alrite, thanks guys. Ill probably just use the "less expensive" stuff until I can afford the good stuff. Sorry for being a dick but some of your guys on here really need to rethink how you word stuff.
