CV shaft replacement Question....
Monday, July 25, 2005 6:08 AM
Ok i have my 2 new shafts sitting here waiting for me to install them. I was looking over my haynes repair manual seeing what this installed.... yadda yadda yadda. So i know you have to bascially do a wheel bearing change and then some. When you remove the old CV shaft they said some OIL will come out when you remove the shafts. How much exactly will come out? Does all of the transmisson fluid come out with them? Also do you have to replace that oil seal around where the cv shafts go in? Or only clean the surface off? THis is all i need to know before i can get rolling on this next project.

You are supposed to change the seals everytime you pull the shafts. Its not completly nexessary. I would check and see if they are cheap pick a couple up but be carefully putting them in. Im not sure about the autos but I know with my 5 speed if you dont drain it you will loose alot of oil.

Ugggh. Guess i need to go to the dealership parts dept tomorrow and blow more $$ out my ass to fix this thing. Might as well pick up a few bottles of that tranny fluid for this damn thing. Any idea RJ on how much those seals are?

I dont think they were to much but I recomend getting the seals from your local auto parts store. You can price them on www.autozone.com do s google search for advance's website they have online pricing as well.
