i was just wondering if it is normal to have noises coming from your 5 speed when you let off the gas? the sound is a humming noise (similar to the noise i hear when i let off the gas in reverse) and it seems to go up in pitch as my speed increases, not revs. i don't think my tranny fluid has ever been changed and my car is at 72000 miles, so is this the problem? any answers would be appreciated. i really don't want to spend 20$ on synchromesh!!! (lol)

$20 on syncromesh, or $1500 on a new tranny... you decide

Some noise is normal... as these aren't the quietest cars to begin with... but if it's more than you're used to hearing, then something is starting to wear or go out... usually noises that become more prominent are a good warning sign of something...
