Flywheel????
Monday, August 15, 2005 10:05 AM
Hi, i just got a spec clutch stage 3 for my 1999 z24 and i want to get a flywheel. Ive been told by someone that its not a good idea to get a lighter flywheel cause i would lose power and top end will be shot etc.....Can anyone just tell me whats the PROS and CONS of getten a lighter flywheel and also which flywheel should i get................

Thanks

a lighter flywheel will actually drop your bottom end a bit i think. having less rotational mass, you wont get as much umph behind it when you pop the clutch. but, buy having less rotational mass, it will spin much easier.

why did you get a stage 3? from the looks of your reg, you dont need a stage 3. as far as which flywheel, cant tell ya. i dont have a 2.4

I had a lighter flywheel (fidenza) and loved it for it's high RPM improvments, however it was a bitch to launch (either spins or bogs) and a PITA for heavy traffic as it was MUCH easier to stall etc. I ended up taking it out and don't regret it, but often I miss the top end benefit it provided.

I have a spec alum. flywheel with a spec stage 3 clutch and I love it! Stage 3 seems to be a popular one. The main thing I noticed with my clutch is it revs down alot slower but its not anything to worry about at all. Top end being shot?? With my mods and the 62mm TB I just got top end feels endless!! So much power its crasy.

SO why would somebody buy a light flywheel when it steals alot from your launch ? I find that makes or brakes a race, 1/4 mile time n many cases.

i have a Stage 2 SPEC Clutch and the 9 lbs SPEC Flywheel and i love them..i gotta agree it sucks in bumper to bumper traffic casue you have to rev a lil bit higher to get the flywheel spinning but when racing, i rev up to 3000/3500 rpms and drop it and my launch is still pretty decent....for some reason, when you drop gears it seems like your getting up and goin pretty well with a lighten flywheel...I have a 2.4 with Intake, Header allt he way back with 2.25" Piping, Engine Mounts, Stage II clutch/flyhweel, short shifter...with the pacesetter header(new style) its made for top end so the top end/low end loss and gain can be different with what mods you have done.

Just get your stock one resurfaced.

Then grab one from a wrecker, have it resurfaced, and do the job on the weekend as planned.

I have the one Rksport sells and I love it. It is not a PITA to drive in the city and I never stall it.
