Hey guys,
I have a 95 cavalier with the 2.2 ohv 5spd. Tonight as i was on my way home i dropped it into second, let the clutch out and the car did nothing, so i put it back into third. and drove the rest of the way home. played with it in the driveway for a few minutes and could not figure at why i couldnt get it to go into first or second gear. all the other gears seem to work fine.
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? and how much it should cost to fix it.
I did do a search for this but came up with nothing.
Any help is appreciated thanks in advance.
its all about power to weight

I had the same problem, well it sounds the same at the least. When my 90 did this i had broken the shifter fork for the first/second gears. I was lucky to had had an other transmission lying around, although it was in some brutal shape. I took the two apart and figured out what parts i needed and made one good transmission. If you are lucky i would say you could buy one used for about 200 - 400 dollars. it took me about a weekend to do mine. If just a swap i would say it would take about 6 to 10 hours depending on how fast you work and how well you know your car. Hope this helps you
how are you able to move the car? Are you launching in 3rd gear? good luck
