My car started having problems with the shifter.. i could do a complete 360 with my shifter with nothing stopping it and it would only grab certain gears and 3'rd gear started to grind for some reason. i took it to a machanic and they did a diagnostic test and the only thing they foun wrong was that my shifter cables had broke/snapped. i got that fixed and that cost me $573. and now it still grinds 3'rd gear. why does it do that?
at best your syncros are going. ask around your town about a reputable trans shop and take it there. 600 bucks for the cable job is sky high, dont ever go back to that other shop ever again, even to go to the bathroom.
Yea, i had the same problem, with my shift cables one of my wires came completely out of the loom and frayed, so i could also do a 360 with only grabbing 2 gears 3rd and 5th, so i went and bought a new cable for, not really expensive and then i put it in myself in like 30 minutes, if that.....very easy to do....

OMFG! you could have bought 30 shifter cables for that! you got ripped off bad and that wasn't even the problem! your 3rd gear syncros are bad because of your clutch line actuator is bad thats why its hard to put it in 1st gear when your at a dead stop. my stock clutch line destroyed 2 transmission's syncros.
dont ever goto that shop again thats the biggest rip-off i've seen in a while. you should learn to do stuff yourself. chevys are mechanical gold because they are terribly cheap to fix and shops can charge $1200 just to put a new clutch in.
please learn to do it yourself because people like to rip-off other peoples hard earned money.
The cables cost me about $70 and about an hour to put in. I started having the problem about 2-3 years ago never dealt with it and had to replace my whole tranny this year.

Mine doesnt go into 3rd real well when im getting on it really hard, its almost like it wont line up, its so intermittent too, it would do it sometimes, and other times it'll work fine, maybe the new Tranny mounts will help (still need to put them in).

As i said had that same issue never persued it because i didn't have the money now i am out about $3000 because of a new tranny. May be the Synchros in the tranny. As the dealer said my tranny looked like mush.

you say it is intermittent?......so it doesn't do it all the time?.......let it sit over night then see if it does it......then the next time try pumping the clutch peddel about 15 times then try......sounds like the syncros but i'd get the slave cylinder checked
well i got an 04 and it does it..
i said fuk it .. mine actually pops it right outta gear. and grinds the whole way out.
did it bad lastnight hard core.
as far repair its going to have to wait till i have some money saved.
