Special situation
Wednesday, October 26, 2005 8:16 PM
Alright I have this interesting problem with my vehicle. The transmission went out on my car nothing special there. But the transmission is a 98 I think in a 99 Z body. And the motor is a 2K+. What transmission would work with this. Would I be able to get away with putting a 2k+ tranny or will things be different? Or would everything be fine? Thanks

you need to put the same trans back in it....wheter izuzu or getrag....you cant mix them w/out allot of work(cutting and welding new brackets.).....so if its a 99 04 ealier i woudl stick with the izuzu......and the trans are differnt between 2.2 and 2.4 so just make sure its off the same engine. by different i mean the bellhousing(bolt pattern)

yeah if your car has an isuzu 5 speed then you have to go back with the isuzu 5 speed, if you want to swap to a getrag, then yo can but its not a bolt in, you have to reweld on one of the trans mounting bracketrs and the shifter and shift cables are different.

I woudo just have the trans thats in the car rebuild and put in an LSD if you want one, nows the best time to have it done.

I'm looking at around 1500 probably to get the tranny rebuilt. And I could spend an addtional 300 or 400 for a brand new one from gmpartsdirect. so the trannies mount positions are different for 00+ than the 97-99. Like said. many times before about this car. abused and beatin'. And I'm reincarnating it. Just want to try and get my hands on the best possible solution to the mis-match engine and tranny. To make sure I do'nt have to worry about the tranny later on when I finally can start doing series mod's to the motor.

So the tranny Mounts are definately different then? Or would my best bet be go find a wreck 00+ car or check out a friends car and see if they are similar or not.
