I have the 4T40E with the B&M shiftplus spliced in. Ive had it for about 4months without any problems. However recently I had noticed that it didnt shift as hard as it used to one setting one which is what i set it at everyday. Yesterday i was driving in the rain when all of a sudden with no noise and no CEL the car got "stuck" in 3rd gear. The car would go 1st-2nd-3rd then as i would press on the accelerator it woudnt do anything but rev up the rpms. Can someone give me an idea of what it could be. I already checked the wiring harness and everything seems to be ok. Any advice would be great because i use this car everyday. peace
you might have a actual trans problem
unless there is a wire problem
one of half a dozen causes, you most likely have internal damage, do you have reverse?
yah i have revers and the rest of the tranny is working fine, 1st and 2nd
you may have a code being set thats causing the trans to go into "failsafe mode". get it checked out for codes and let me know what you find, i can steer you in the right direction.
Always the first step should be.... check the wiring! Something may have worked loose.
Try removing the Shiftplus... see if it works properly. If not.. then you have a real problem.
Check engine light on yet? If so.. get the codes scanned. If not, get it scanned anyway... you might have a pending code (pending codes don't set the CEL..)
going to the dealer sat. will let you know what i find, thanks everyone
yeah, you may have snapped a band or clutch...
my B&M kit will be here monday, but i don't plan to leave it on while normal driving... this post is the reason why.
When you increase line pressure, you take a chance of burning up your clutches... so, that could of been the problem
...
higher line pressure gives you higher apply pressure resulting in less slippage, clutch packs burn from slippage.
so how much would a new clutch be?
yeah, or a new tranny. which ever is cheaper...

700ish to a grand @ a tranny shop

more like 1700 to start if they pull the trans, 1200 if you do.
If I were you, I'd take it out and put in an Auto Trans Interceptor so you don't have to worry about wiring issues.

went to the dealer today, the 3rd gear clutch is complely gone, and i was given three options. a complely new one $2100, rebuild $1800, or a junk yard one for $1200. How can it be that much! I dont have close to that much money to work with. What would be the best thing i could do, swap in a 5speed, or what!? otherwise the car is for sale for $4000 if anyone wants pics i can send some
trannys are expensive today, i've been in the trans industry for a long time, the average bill is 1700 to 2200. to break it down for ya: to remove and replace trans-$425, labor to build trans-$600, overhaul kit-$225, torque converter-$195, hotflush cooler-$65, 12 qts ATF-$28. $1537 right there, and thats assuming no hard part damage i.e. drums bands planetary gears updated valvebodies. those parts run upwards of $500. the days of the 500 dollar trans job are long gone.
i rebuilt the 4L60 auto tranny in my truck and yes its rear wheel drive but its still cost me about $550 just in parts and about 2 days to do so labor really kicks ya in the ass if you have ot have someone else do it
