well i just bought a z24 Auto (96) i dont know much of anything bout auto trannys anyway ive got on it a couple times i notice sometimes it will just go into the redline without shifting if im on the gas hard
but tonight i was driving it barely shifts liek it should i get on the gas it has like no response and i keep hitting the gas hard it will just rev as if its in neutral or something if i drive slow it pretty much works decent but when i get on it a little is when it messes up i alread put a new tranny in y other cav i hope its something more simple with this one.. maybe fluid or something any suggestions are apperciated thanx
When mine did that, I found that I was low about 3.5 quarts of tranny fluid
The same exact thing happened - if i drove it slow, it would drive fine but if I gave it hard gas then it would just rev up and not do anything or shift.
I'd check the fluid level for starters.

thats a big relief i just bought it i dont know anything about auto's where is the drain plug? wha size ect?
If it's a certain engine, it might have a dipstick - if not then do this...
Run the car for 5 mins to warm the fluid. Then put it on jack stands.
Leave the car running and make sure you put it up level.
On the passenger side of the transmission theres two hex bolts
You want the one farther up, towards the hood.
Pull the plug.
If fluid dribbles out, tranny is full.
If not, add fluid through the red cap on top of the tranny till fluid runs out of that check hole.
Put the plug back in, lower the car and that's it.
I got this from another post and I have found that the plug is in the general area of the oil plug (keep in mind this is on my '04 ecotec so i'm not sure it it is the same). But the bolt, if you are laying under the car, on ur back, feet towards the rear of the car, will be pointing left. I've been meaning to get pics of this stuff but i have to much goin on. If I find the time i will get some pics. Im gonna go to bed now.

x2
same way for yours
I have a 96 Z auto, do what was said above. You could take ti to Jiffy Lube as well.
FU Tuning
7.4 Quarts
i did it already i dont get which is the check one or which bolt u undo to check to see if its full
Take it to Jiffy Lube, and have them check it. When i check the 4T40E's at work, its the lower plug, and its an 11mm or 7/16 socket, Remove the plug, and if tranny fluid comes out slowly, then shes full, if its gushing, its too much. If anything, have the fluid and filter replaced, not flushed, flushing is said to cause issues.
go to this wed site and scroll down.
http://www.quality-trans.com/faq/faq8.htm it shows a picture of the plug.. its an 11mm. its below the axle shaft slightly towards the front of the car. just watch your hands on the exhaust.
autos have to be in the air car started and there is no drain tube dipstick of that sort. there is a bolt on top of the tranny, take it out and start the car. fluid should run right out if its full. why have the car in the air? it is easier to reach the bolt on top from the bottom of the car.
