If built correctly, the TH125C / 3T40 will handle the power you could make with your 2200.
First and foremost, have it rebuilt with a kit that has the heavy duty cltches and bands and a shift kit, such as the Trans-Go kit or JBP's kit.
Get a good torque converter, such as Yank(if you can still find one), TCI, Performance Converters, etc...
Next, get the gears that would put you in the correct rpm, for the camshaft you're using(call you cam maker).
You will need a transmission cooler to keep the extra heat, generated by these mods and you motor, in check. A transmission temprature gauge will help you know if the cooler is working sufficiantly.
Finally, use a good performance synthetic transmission fluid(Red Line, Royal Purple, even B&M's Synthetic Trick Shift, to handle the abuse.
