2.4 /2.2 Transmission and Related.
Saturday, February 11, 2006 9:39 AM
Around July of 05 I bought a 98' Z24 Cavalier Convertiable. About Nov' 05 the Clutch plate went out. Around Dec 20th a local mechanic shop in my area replaced the plate with a full kit.
Shortly after the syncro went out on 3rd and 4th gear. And have been researching for information on a replacement or finding a machine shop to rebuild.
While I have been looking around I pondered most of the Transmission Forum and found information about replacing 2.2 Ecotec Transmission Gears with a 2.4 Z24 Transmission by swapping 3rd and 4th from the 2.2 to the 2.4 transmission.
This Peeked my Interest in the modification immediately
Was hoping to get some advise on more details about this conversion, including (part numbers, installation help, etc.)
Any information for this conversion would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
and Happy tuning

its the 2.2 OHV gears, not the ecotec (the eco and ld9 share the same gears)......

Being your car is a 98, you have the Isuzu transmisson..... which was used in the 3rd gens from 95-99. The Isuzu trans is cheaper to replace (with a used trans) then it is to rebuild, and most shops wont touch them. The other trans avaliable is the Getrag, which was used from 00-05 (but gear ratios are the same between the 2200, 2.4, 2.2 Eco).

I have posted the diagram and parts needed to swap over the 2.2 gears into a 2.4...... not to long ago in fact.
