what, your swapping to an AUTO EcoTec?

I've installed plenty of trans coolers..... just never taken any pics of them (never on a Jbody though..... )

yes auto . If its a five speed or an auto its still a cavalier. Id own a manual trans only if i had a vette or ws6, then id have a 6 speed

My eco/auto swap will be a direct swap. I have no intention of messing with welding in new tranny mount, shifter, linkage...yada yada.

If you aren't going to mod the stock fan put the cooler on the left side of the vehicle in front of the radiator where the stock fan is going to pull air through it.

The follow the instructions that the cooler came with. I would suggest anything in the 50$ range. Look for something that claims to be for a truck or RV. The denser the fin pattern the better. Hadden or B&M is a good name brand. B&M even makes a kit that comes with a cooler and a separately controlled fan.

Nothing wrong with an Auto and I have driven both autos and manuals. Auto is def the best choice for the track. I own a M6 Camaro and the second I decide to race it; A3 swap with trans brake! (high stall of course) The M6 works wonders on the street but not fast enough for serious competition.

You just can't shift a M6 faster than a built auto and anyone you tells you diff is lying. I know people that ran so much HP through a M6 it would total the trans after 2 runs. They switched to a TH400 and never had problems again!

One easy way to tell is to run the car around for a while and then get out and feel which one is hot. It is not going to be a huge temp diff but you should be able to tell a slight difference.

Ultimately, it is not going to hurt if you put it before or after the factory radiator. I have seen diagrams for both configs.

I would get a bigger cooler if you are going to run a stall converter.

I usually put it on the return line...... no real reason why, just cleaner install on most vehicles that way (usually mounted the cooler lower on the radiator).

That cooler should be fine for the 4t40e trans..... but then again, I have no experiance with stall converters.......

You are good with that size, then. FWD cars seem to retain more heat so a larger cooler is sometimes needed than you might think.

I can snap a few quick pics of the cooler I put on my Malibu if you are still interested. I hooked into the return line from the radiator and mounted the cooler on the front bottom brace forward the radiator.

Let me know.
