Yesterday I was at a stop light... i took off rapid shifted out of first at about 5500-5900 RPM when I put 2nd in I must of not had the clutch all the way in and I heard a grind...quickly pushed the clutch back in tryed again and it grinded again! This all happed within a few seconds..how ever long it takes to shift. So now the 2nd gear wasent working on the way home just 1,3,4,5 also reverse was somehow shot too........ so when I got home I investigated the problem and took another drive just around the block..... 1,3,4,5 still working. Then I got to my street and it was stuck in 4th I believe... So i took the center console out and pulled the carpet back to access the cables. The cables and shifter do seem to have any damage but it wont let me shift ITS STUCK I SOME GEAR! When I go under the hood to change the gears by hand I can switch to any gear. But when the cables are attached its stuck!! Whats wrong....??? Trans or clutch? Both? Shifter? Cables? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks. Danny. (407) 812-9153 / orlando area.
also prior to this about a year back I hit a curb and knocked one of the cables off the shifter and tranny. I jigga rigged it... it worked but 2nd grinds at downshift about 80% of the time.... i know this has something to do with somethiing.
also when i engaged from first to second the gring sound like from the shifter area or flywheel mabey.
had the same problem, had to replace the @!#$er cabels. the grinding sounds like the your syncros are shot. shifting at 5500, must have been in a hurry.
lol... anyway am! I love that 2nd gear cherp....but it cost me! lol. More replys please.

how is that my problem? car ran fine. it has something to do with the cables.. when I detatch them from the tranny and shifter the cables move like there new and I can shift manually from ontop of the tranny with no probles so I dont think its the tranny. But when the cables are attached its stuck....
i had the same problem i looked and looked for the prob finally found it by the cable bracket holding it cable in place in the engine bay the wirers had came out of the housing and would put out of the housing in 2nd so i got a new cable no more problems
seems like you figured it out yourself....... narrowed it down to either the cables or shifter.....
