Before I change my tranny oil

OK, this may seem like neglect on my part, but I have a '96 Z24, 5 speed with 138K miles and I have never changed the oil in the transmission and I got the car with 3 miles on it. Everything is stock, never been rebuilt and shifts fine. I picked up some Royal Purple Synchromax to swap out the factory fill. Before I do this, do you think I will have any problems with say leaking or maybe the tranny rejecting new fluid b/c its been deprived? Or will I just enjoy much better shifting. If this were an auto, I would think twice before doing a complete change over, but manuals are different right? TIA.

I did mine around 85k miles (think they recommend 50 or 60k), and it was fine, used GM's own Syncromesh. When my clutch was replaced both times (the new slave was bad), it was changed again, so 3 tran's flushes in 6 months or so.. I think you'd be alright, its thick, sorta like differential fluid, i'd look for shavings.
