I was driving around today when all of a sudden the engine sort of felt "weird". I can't really explain it much better than that. I was just driving and then I noticed that the pedal wasnt really reponding the way it normally does. That's when I noticed that the trac control light was on.
So i got off the freeway and noticed it was shifting really poorly. It felt like it was slipping into gear really herky-jerky, and at other times it felt like it was in too high of a gear for the low speed i was driving and was really unresponsive. So when I turned off the road to look under the hood. The engine just died.
So I restarted it and it's running just fine now.
Anyone know what the hell might have caused that mess?
got a CEL at all? Have it scanned and see what the problem is if you do, and go from there. the Traction Control from the 4t40e is prone to kick off if theres a CEL (so ive seen anyway)
No, the check engine light isnt on. It actually did it again to me today. I was just driving on the freeway when it felt like there was more drag than usual on the car. That's when I noticed the traction control light was on. I pulled over. restarted the car and it seemed to be fine. But something I noticed was that it would really slam into gear when i shifted from neutral to drive. Really strange. When i was shifting through the gears I noticed that when I get to D2, the trac control light comes on. Could it be getting stuck in a lower gear or slipping into a lower gear or something?
I've never changed the transmission fluid and the cars got about 110k miles on it. I bought it at 75K miles and I don't know if the previous owner had the tranny fluid changed, but could that be it?
Seeing theres no info in your reg on the car your driving and the way your talking about it "D2" your driving an auto, do you have a B&M shiftkit on? If so this can cause your car to "slam into gear" on stage 2 and also causes your traction control light to come on. Also i hope your not using the auto shift to shift on the highway like 1,2,3,and drive and if you are i hope your monitering your rpms and not redlining the s%$t out of it
Also other then the traction control light it sounds like it could possibly be a timing belt issue.
This car isnt any sportscar by a long shot. Just my basic transportation to work, so no, i'm not shifting it manually or anything like that. The only thing i've added to it is a stereo and a rear swaybar.
If I was to take it into a shop is there anything I should specifically ask them to look at?
