4T40E 2-3 shift problem
Sunday, August 06, 2006 8:24 PM
Hello,

First off, let me say that I do NOT believe that my clutches are burned out for 3rd gear. The problem is when the trans shifts from 2 to 3 there is much of a delay, where it basically goes int neutral, but then grabs third and no slipage is noted. I can drive in 3 all day long without a problem as long as it does not kick down. Then from 3-2 downshift the thing redlines the tach. Just want to know if anyones had a problem like this.

Thanks

Well, I wonder if this is a piston problem. But when I go up hill in 3rd gear I don't get slippage at all. It's only between 2 and 3 either upshifting oir downshifting that eh problem occurs. Yeah. I could see where a sticking piston would cause this, but I could also see where a sticking shift valve or solinoid could be the problem.

you have any mods done (b&m, hp tuners, etc?) if its just bone stock then put a trans in it as this one is roasted i guarentee it. could be a valve sticking, a band thats glazed, etc and i can say its not worth it to tear into it and try fixing it, get a used one and slam it in.

No mods were made with the trans. I guess I will replace it.

Something is probably wrong in the valve body. The longer it's driven, the more damage occurs to the rest of the system.

That's what I am thinking and no, it has not been driven that much since it started this. I did get some insight into the problem from a guy I know that works for a Chevy dealership. He said that it does not sound like something with the computer control, but rather a sticking shift valve. I may end up replacing the whole trans anyway, but if I can avoid it, I will. Thanks for the help.

why bother @!#$ with the one you got now when a used low miler is so cheap, hell you can pick up a 4t40e for 150-400bux around here. it'll cost you atleast 200 if you rip into that one if not more.
