According to my 04 service manual, the designation is Getrag 5T45-E.

That would be a 5spd front wheel drive automatic, with electroinc controls..... slightly bigger than a 76mm trans.

The 00+ Z24 uses the Getrag F23 transaxle.

Hmmm... odd, never heard that designation before...

4T40E is the 4 speed automatic transmission. By deciphering that, a 5T45-E would be a Hydramatic 5 speed automatic, 45-E... nothing even close to that came in a J-body, ever. There is a 4T45-E in the N-body tho... but it's attached to the V6 engines.

SHOoff has it, the 5-speed uses a Getrag F23...

Okay, I guess you guys are right. I was trying to find a designation from the factory service manual and the only reference I could find was on page 10 of the general information section where it identifies the location of the VIN. The heading states, "Getrag 5T45-E Transmission VIN Location, M86". This must be an error in the manual. It wouldn't be the first one I've found. Thanks for the correction. I guess I didn't research this enough.....

In tracking the RPO code M86, it identifies the trans as, "Transmission, 5 SPD, OPEL, F23, 5T45MI". Does this seem right?

Could be a designation that I've never heard of before..... the 5T45E that is.

5T45MI sounds more like the 5-speed getrag... then again, never heard that designation used before either. F23 is what most people use here and those GM techs I talk to...
