Hey guys,
ALl the sudden, the reverse gear in my car won't engage. As if does not exists, it wouldnt even go in partially!
All other gears work perfect. ANy ideas? Does it necessarly have to be the transmission (synchronizer im thinking) or could it be something else?
Thanx
It's not the synchro. Many cars don't even have a synchro at all on the reverse gear (my Porsche 928 for example). Does your transmission have some kind of safety mechanism to prevent shifting into R? I know on my 02, I have to pull up a ring on the shifter or else it won't go in. The dealer had to show me how to work it. Maybe this mechanism is stuck and won't allow the shifter to go into R.

No mechanisim. It s a 99 cavalier. U just push it in.
Thanx anyways
ANy other ideas?
Are we talking about auto or manual. I know you said synchronizer, but no offense lots of people on here have no tore apart both auto and manual trans, and have no clue how they work.

Well if it was auto and he couldn't get it past R he'd never be able to put it in D either.
