the question is will work? i've been doing resaerch on different 4spd auto trannys and found that the pontiac g5 gt has a final drive of 3.91, which is higher than 5sp equipped j's. my concern is will it mate to a 2.2l ecotec and fit into my cavy?
I'm almost certain that the J's come with 3.94 auto FDR or 3.91 manual FDR.
So it would be the same gearing as the G5....
thanks again for wb john. i did some more research and found that your pretty mush right, but your numbers are mixed. the g5 gt tranny swap isn't any use since the ecotec already comes with the same final drive ratio.
any motor w/ 5sp =3.94
2.2l ecotec w/ 4spd= 3.9
2.2l ohv or 2.4l (non-ecotec)w/ 4spd=3.63
2.2l ohv w/ 3spd=3.18
Bah, I'm getting old
That's why I start posts with "I'm almost certain..." nowadays...

If I'm not mistaken isn't the old 2.4 tranny (isuzu) a 3.83, or 3.76, and then the getrag went to a 3.94?
FU Tuning
possibly john h., i got the 3.63 from searching a 1997 z24. i got the stats from cars.com. click the research tab and pick a car, then check out the info. you could even find out quarter mile times on newer cars; 2005 and up. something like that. it's ok lenko dude, alomost is better than nothing.
